Prolong Battery Charger (rent or borrow)

Just to be clear, as part of RECONDITIONING process it is optional step

But....
As part of the INSTALLATION it is necessary.

Step 6 of the INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS specifically states....

DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!
6) Disconnect the 12V auxiliary battery by removing the ground cable from the vehicle body. Wrap this in a plastic bag and tuck out of the way such that it cannot accidentally connect with body ground.​

Seriously. Don't skip this step when INSTALLING then system.

Thank you for the info. No smog needed until registration renewal in June of 2018 so that part of it won't matter. I think I'll just let the car pick the charge up on it's own though. One less thing to do.

 

We caught that but thank you for the reminder. My son looked over those instructions before he agreed to do the install. We plan to have the laptop with the instructions and pictures on the screen right there with us during the installation. I'm thinking I'll have a printed copy there too.

 

Ne Update? I drive My 2005 daily & seems to be doing ok. but was investigating Prolong Battery charger.

It's been a couple of years since that post. I ultimately decided to have a hybrid specialist do the install. I do the maintenance sessions myself. The car is humming along and the battery appears much more stable with regular use of the Prolong system.
