Oh you'll be surprised. All the residential streets have the entire dump of snow since last Sat. None of it has been cleared.

David, we actually got the light fluffy stuff because we were well below zero but that melt we got earlier this week when we went above zero partially melted the snow and all the tyre tracks became coated with ice.

Now after a few more melting and re-freezing episodes, all the tracks are covered in ice.

We had some serious rain early this morning, and the snow is nearly all gone.
I'm thinking of a quick trip to Olympia, even though I don't have shopping needs to justify it, just for the relief of cabin fever! :p

    Probably won't, though...

rae; we still got a lot of snow here. its in the mid 40's right now and raining, but some parking lots we were in last night still have as much as a foot of slushy gunk. now not as tough to drive in, but still rutted and can still get stuck. and now you get soaked in seconds walking in it.

earlier this week when it was still in the mid to low 30's, i was out in it A LOT to dig out from one stuck to another... but at least my shoes stayed dry... not so any more

It wasn't too bad. Yes, Oly has a lot more snow piled up.
The parking lots were pretty terrible, but we did okay (Costco, Petco, Mall) finding spots.
the 10-day forecast is promising :)

Plenty of slush/ice here on the side streets. Main streets are cleared except the curb where they shoved the snow to.

temps in the mid 40's have gone a long towards clearing up the roads. only have patches of ice here and there, mostly in lesser used left turn lanes and such. even our neighborhood streets now have bare patches of road showing. most of it will be gone by Monday or Tuesday at the latest,...GOOD RIDDANCE!!

The main roads here are clear, but the piles of snow may last for weeks. Looking at the forecast, there's still a chance of snow at higher elevations, though rain appears prevalent for the lower mainland.

Yeah and given that the snow was fluffy, it'll saturate it first (if it isn't already) before melting the rest of it.

Oh happy day. It's snowing again. I think I'd prefer a little more variety in my exercise program than yet more shovelling.

Last night, all the snowmelt froze and everything was covered in ice. Even walking was treacherous.

Even in Fahrenheit, -27.4 below 0 still SUCKS!!!

Been there, done that, moved to Los Angeles.

I was aiming for Hawaii, but Interstate 10 stopped at the beach in Santa Monica!!

    CRAP!!

Try to stay warm, I can feel the chill from here!

Hey, I've lived in Saskatchewan, and I know what Winter is. I readily admit Vancouver doesn't really have one, and that we sound like whiners to the rest of the country. Still, the alternating thawing and freezing can be more of a problem for driving than steady cold.

Well, I lived in West Central Minnesota, and dated a guy in Winnepeg... and drove up to see him in some of the worst weather!! (young. dumb. yup, that was me)

The last winter I spent "out on the farm," it hit -40 degrees (it's the same, C or F) and colder repeatedly. The wind chill hit -56F, more than once.

This is one reason I moved. :p It's 42F here... a little dreary, but not dangerous to be out in.

Um, I don't think that was me.

Jayman, unless you are Jewish, and actually can't drive due to health issues, I don't think it was you. Oh, and a former taxi driver. And a few other things I'll not mention on this public board...

A couple of days ago we had some light rain. Temps have been in the mid 20C range and the Prius is doing quite well. Some places actually had puddles on the sealed road!! The Prius just plowed on through.
When I went to see my brother I had to drive on dirt roads, I picked up a stone in my hubcap!

Must ring my council, I have never seen a snow plow on our streets or in the council yards, can't be too careful I say.

Enjoy the winter people, I'll come have a look forr myself soon.
Happy new year from PatSparks and all the sparks family.

Nope, it wasn't me. However, next time in this area, you want a tour guide, or just want to go out to Tim Hortons for coffee, drop a line

Make sure you book your trip to arrive in January, that is typically our coldest temps. Folks not used to -30 C and colder, I always dare them to open their mouth and inhale

Hint: if you've never had asthma, the -30 C or colder air hitting your trachea and lungs, will give a *very* good approximation to an asthma attack

Oh, and Jay and his two plump housecats wish your family a happy new year too. Meow!
