Good point. Post amended..... You only have to be careful about the advice that you TAKE, not give. If you're smart all the way around the track, It's not Prius VERSUS generators. It's Priuses AND generators. I grew up in Indiana, where hurricanes are somewhat rare....like they used to be in North Carolina! Propane and ICE, and ICE (Internal Combustion Engines) - somewhat less so. If it's cold enough to prevent a propane genny from functioning then there is also a non-zero percent chance that a car will fail to start - albeit a much smaller chance for a daily-driver. We won't even get into a discussion about iced-over PEVs and battery banks at -20 degrees in 'freedom units.' If you're in those conditions then you are 'probably' not trying to find ice to keep food cold, electricity to take a shower, or run an air conditioner. People don't plan to fail. They do sometimes fail to plan. The military teaches PACE. Primary - ops normal. Alternate - backup genny with bunkered fuel, Solar. Contingency - vehicle, propane, backup batteries, portable solar. Emergency - Neighbors, Churches, FEMA. Federal troops. etc. GO two or three questions deep into the 'ask yourself' thing and you stand a little bit better chance of being able to HELP friends and neighbors who do not, and not be a victim.
It all seems outdated. What's the latest on getting a pure sine wave inverter that runs off the 230v pack?
The latest is whatever you're finding on eBay. It would appear that there was never enough sales volume to sustain even the cottage industry that had gone on before. I have occasionally searched and found inverters with high DC input voltages. They are out there, or at least they become available from time to time.
I don't have more recent information, but for anyone who does, there's already a thread where it belongs: Electric power from a hybrid, connecting inverter to the high-voltage system | PriusChat
I already have a couple of the 'outdated' choices mentioned in that thread, both obtained from other PriusChat members, so I've lost my incentive to be keeping up with the newer ones on the market. Maybe somebody who does have info on newer products could add that info on that thread. That's what it's for.
