I have a ScanGaugeII but can't find any confirmation that the X-Gauge codes for the Prius work with the Camry. ( I doubt they would since it's a different ECU) I loved having it in my Prius, I would display Coolant Temp, Friction Braking, RPM and battery current.

-This conversation has gone slight ly off-topic but hopefully it helps Fred/anyone else in his/their quest for TCH Knowledge.

Great thread! Thanks everyone. I will, however refrain from using the term "bulletproof" on this forum!

I need to check out the ScanGauge information.

Azimuth, just curious, did you notice any fluctuations in the coolant temps on your Prius?

The CMax has a custom, user selectable display for engine temp and tachometer. My suspicion is Ford saw all the concerns from hybrid owners wanting this info.

So, this might be similar to the way they handle the gauge layout in the Escape and the Edge.

The C-Max seems to suffer from the same type of criticism that most hybrids get--low mileage from certain drivers.
I read some reviews that slam the car for turning in mileage figures in the 30's.

It's a bit more advanced than those dashes. It originally appears in the previous fusion hybrid. There's the speedometer plus some of the usual gauges in the middle. To either side of that is an LCD screen with customizable displays. This where you can have the energy monitors and fuel consumption screen that the Prius has on the central display.

The C-max is heavier than it could be, and the higher power output mean it is easier to get lower fuel economy out of it than a Prius. Cleanmpg.com did do a C-max, Prius, and Pv face off. They could exceed the EPA with the C-max, but not by the margins they could with the Prii. In other words, it will probably take more effort to get the high mpg in it than in your Prius.

not really, Mine was always at 197 once it leveled off.
In the winter (32-48F in Texas) I did see a lot of heat loss when the ICE was off at traffic lights if that's what you are talking about.

I enjoyed my week with the C-Max. In summary, in unscientific testing, it did better on fuel economy than the Prius V I tested, but not as well as our Prius does in similar driving. Overall, I thought it was a very nice vehicle and pretty competitive with Prius and Prius V, each with their own pros and cons that vary for each buyer, of course. I also liked the Fusion hybrid quite a bit, too. Haven't yet tested the Camry Hybrid, though it's on my list when I get time. I'm a bit concerned about Toyota's recent dismal performance on the new IIHS partial offset crash test. Even their newly redesigned vehicles have been doing poorly in that test, and the parameters have been established long enough for them to have done better in "all new" models over the last year or two:-( The new Fusion was pretty respectable overall, though. Granted, one crash test is not the end all for safety, but still disappointing.

I got to drive a base model C-Max last night and it was really nice. This one had the winter option package with the heated mirrors and heated cloth seats. The handling and ride is very refined on the C-Max. The hatchback on the C-Max is what might draw a lot of Prius owners towards Ford. I have yet to drive a Prius V, but I have driven a Camry Hybrid.

Interesting point about the partial offset crash test. I was told by my Toyota dealer that the 2010 Prius III I drive has a different front end design than the newer models. I need to check on that.

In a completely unrelated move, a friend of mine just traded his 2010 Prius for a Mini Cooper Countryman. He says he will miss the gas mileage and "space shuttle" feel of his Prius. But, the Mini is making him smile.

 Don't see how that can be. They are the same design.

Not quite, Trollbait. Prius C has a much different front end than my Prius. I was told the front end structure and bracing is different, but I never researched it.

The Prius C is a completely different car. My comment was within the confines of the gen3, your car. I guess it's possible they made structural changes to the front end during the refresh, but I don't see why they would. Wouldn't Toyota have to recertify its crashworthiness if they made such changes, and that costs money.

Even if our standard Prius does vary somewhat, I wouldn't have much confidence in it being much superior. Given the results of the new Camry/ES350, Rav4 and Prius V, it seems Toyota just didn't put an emphasis on this with their newer designs.

Yeah, great points. I'm still trying to digest the partial offset crash test. We got used to looking at the other ratings and I have to admit to ignoring the safety data on one convertible I owned.

Toyota is kind of frustrating me as I learn more and more.

Maybe it's time to look at a Subaru Forester and give up on the hybrids?

Rambling on, I hope you guys have a great Saturday. Thanks for opening my eyes.
