The Priuschat moral police will pull me over and put me in cuffs but spray it with a coat of rubber in a can on the rust and sell it to carmax. I’ll edit this post when the red win wears off to tomorrow morning.
i guess if the brake actuator, inverter and head gasket were only several hundred dollars each to repair, it wouldn't be that big a deal. but when people get quoted $2-3,000. for each repair, and they have to decide if it's worth it because the car isn't worth much more, that seems problematic
Also, the prophylactic maintenance to avoid head gasket failure is regular EGR and intake manifold clean-out, say every 50k miles. Toyota doesn’t want to know about it, dealerships flat-out WON’T clean parts, just replace (about a grand USD worth). And the labour likely about another grand. independent shops that’ll take a more sensible approach are few and far between. Tampa Hybrids and The Hybrid Pit Stop (LA area?) are pretty much the options? owner get togethers were effective, @Raytheeagle and @Grit organized those.
