Not affected by gas station or brand. Don't know about O2 sensor. Brakes could be an issue, I have the subjective feeling that the car declerates more rapidly than our v when I take my foot off the gas. But there's no indication like excessive heat, etc., when I stop and check. I'll try raisng the car and spinning the wheels by hand, but I don't expect any drag. I'm also going to fire up Torque and see if I can see anything odd in the mass of data it will collect. I wonder about the traction battery in particular, but that's paranoia more than anything else.
Most controllers sense slow response from an O2 sensor and throw a code which translates to "tired sensor" when needed. I've seen it at 60k on other cars. I'll bet injectors and I'd dump some Techron in for a tank or 2 and see if that helps. Just after consuming the gas then change the oil and filter.
My gasoline of choice is Chevron, but they're hard to find lately, so I'll try the Techron straight for a couple of tanks. Haven't seen any codes of interest, but there may be some low-level data of interest I'll see with Torque. Just changed the oil 2K ago, unfortunately.
We test drove a 2014 V last week and are ready to trade in our 2007 with 125,000 warranty, asap. My wife remarked that she would have to really watch the city speeds with the V- perhaps that lower drive ratio encourages folks to step on it more?- I get 46mpg most of the time in SW Florida and would be happy with a 4 mpg drop in the V.
Hello Ben, If you are careful, I expect that you will not see even a 4 mpg drop. I get 50mpg regularly in my Prius v. The GenIII has a better Engine and electric motors than the 2007. I expect you will stay at the same mpg level. Thanks, Dan
Thanks Dan for the heads-up-- I got 56-57mpg this summer driving through Iowa on a tank of no-alcohol 87 octane (10 cents a gallon more) - that pulse and glide does work! I am just starting to go through the dealer gauntlet to find a good deal on a new 2014- which is hard in Florida.
We have a 2011 Gen 3 hatchback and just picked up a new 2013 Prius v to replace a 9 year old minivan. The 2011 generally gets and indicated ~50 mpg while the new v in the 2 1/2 tanks used so far is showing an indicated 44 mpg. We're loving the gas savings being a 2 prius family!
We average 42mpg (5.6l/100km) in our 7 seater prius v. It is only 900 meters to the school drop off so in winter the engine is always on. I still think most cars would do a lot worse and are glad we got it. It does ~20% better on weekends and interstate trips.
To early to say for us, but I'm hoping the v penalty is about a wash with the Gen 2 to 3 improvement. Looks promising so far. I've recently been getting about 52mpg on my 2005, she was getting 46pmg on her 2008. With a mix of both of us driving the '13 v is at 49.3mpg after its first 200 miles! Very pleased so far. Rob
My wife loves her v, and has found a way to accomodate the possibly lower mileage: she doesn't track it at all. I, on the other hand, have closely tracked my Gen II's mileage since new, and am constantly concerned about it, especially as it now seems to be trying too match whatever the v's doing. Ignorance may be bliss, after all.
Our Prius vagon is over a year old and has about 42k miles on the odometer. Lifetime MPG on the meter is 51.9, but I assume that is about 5% generous since the car is really just an overgrown G3. About 1/2 the miles are highway at 65-70 mph and 1/2 are at 50 - 55 mph. The car lives and works at 5,000 - 7,000 feet elevation.
