It seems as if later versions of v come with softex on the middle center console arm rest. Does anyone know if the spare part for model year 2015 / 2016 will physically fit in a 2012 v?

These are all the alternatives I tried:
    1. Took it to my local upholstery and he did not want to do the job. He was afraid of damaging it.
    2. Tried removing it myself and I also felt it could get damaged easily.
    3. Looked at the choice sold in this site and did not like it.
    4. Decided to go cheap. It ocurred to me to simply dye it using cloth dye. Went to Hobby Lobby (or Michael's) and purchased a $1.99 bottle and used their 40% discount coupon. Placed some painters tape and did it. It looks fine for a $1.20 job, and it will probably give me another couple years of usage. Here are my pics. It was hard to get a good picture of the finished black console because of the shine. But it looked very good once done.

FWIW, if you decide to do it again, the bezel separates from the frame very easily using interior trim tools and snaps right back on. In a warm shop you won't damage anything..

By bezel, do you mean just the padded piece? or the entire top lid?

Top lid snaps to/separates from frame. Padded piece is screwed to underside of bezel. Unscrew padded piece, reupholster (I removed the armrest cover, left the padding in place, covered with gray leather matching the SofTex), reattach to bezel and snap back onto frame.

Yes, with screws coming up from below the bezel (thru bezel into pad frame).

How you were able to remove the entire console door ? It seems that the hinge goes somewhere inside between the cupholder and the console , but I couldn’t figure it out...

I started this job this weekend. Here are some additional pictures for your refence. I indicated in red the best spots to use your pry tool and avoid breaking too many plastic tabs. I recommend you cut the pattern using the existing cloth. I pushed down the old cloth using a ruler to mark the pattern since it kept wanting to curl back to its old shape. I did not have any contact cement to finish the job, but the rest is easy from here.
