I'm at 15 years with my 2010 gen 3. Original battery, rated fair by Dr. Prius. The head gasket seems ok for now, but as I am driving shorter distances now am getting worried about that.

We still have a 2009 Gen 2 with 209,000 miles, on the original battery. It's had no major mechanical issues, just a few odds and ends over the years. My son drives it about an hour a day to commute to school and back. I have a 2010 Gen 3 with 109,000 miles that is in good shape ,except that the battery will probably need replacement in the next year. I'll plop a Nexcell Lithium in it and keep going (the car is almost fully loaded, and totally paid for, long ago. All the usual fixes required for 2010s were done long ago. These are great cars if you take care of maintenance and get all the recall stuff done as issued.

Np. Ya, I mostly drove it as daily driver for many years, until I went remote. In addition, we took it on very long road trips, one time from FL to CO, then back again, many times from NJ to FL, and trips to surrounding states in NJ. Both of those contributed to the 172k miles that it has right now. Now that I am remote AND have a new car, it is barely driven, and only for short hops, which concerns me with re to the head gasket problem.

I just double checked. That number does not include the cost of the catalytic converter replacements that were covered by insurance, but it does include the purchase price of the car. If I take out the purchase price of the car, that leaves $6736 in maintenance and repairs over 7+ years of ownership. I managed to get a really good deal with the screen. The dealership quoted me over a thousand for a used replacement, but I was able to get it fixed for $300 from AutoBeYours.com
