Prius Sales Up Big Time In July

The original production plan was 40,000 per month, 10,000 for Japan and 30,000 for overseas.
The Japanese demand was very huge, then Toyota increased the production plan to 50,000, 20,000 for Japan and 30,000 for overseas.
Still, Japanese customers have to wait for more than 8 months, then Toyota increased Japanese allocation to 25,000, so the overseas allocation now became only 25,000 per month.

Maybe, the US customers will see a loooong wait list soon.

US alone sold more than 19k in July. There will be shortage world wide.

I'm still driving the 03 Prius for work and leaving the 10 at home for the wife. But when she sends me out for 'stuff,' I'm happy to use her car. <grins>

Sad to say but likely to be true. I suspect we're going to see the 25,000 shared with many markets, not just the USA. I suspect it will really hit in September and October.

I'm surprised we haven't seen a currency exchange increase in prices.

oh we will. that is one of the key reasons why i bought early. i feel that as soon as Toyota has hit "market intro" levels with the 2010 Pri, they will raise prices back to the original "before Insight" levels.

to insure that consumers do understand the increased value of the 2010 over the 2009, they simply had to get 2010's out to the market at an attractive price and then simply do what they did with the 2004's... just let word of mouth sell the car

 

I strongly doubt it. Price increases aren't in order right now.

Yen is back to 98 to the dollar. Toyota has made most of their calculations at a conservative 93 per dollar rate.... Dollar is rebounding and I don't see any "currency" increases coming.....

I'm one of those new Prius owners thanks to the CARS credit. I'm in a high income bracket so we are "income ineligible" for most tax breaks ( i'm not complaining!). I'm what someone might call frugal about a lot of things. I kept my truck for 17 years! Bought it straight out of college brand new for less than 10,000. Worked hard to pay it off in the year I took off between undergrad and grad school. Pretty reliable Ford Ranger with Automatic nothing! Probably why it was so reliable. I paid extra for the 4x4 and the long bed and the slightly bigger engine (6 instead of 4 cyl.). The 4x4 and bigger engine wound up being what pushed it to 18mpg for the Clunkers deal but I couldn't have forseen that! The clutch was starting to fail for the second time the last month so I knew it was soon to be gone as teh repair was more than the vehicle was worth.

I have to admit that I bought the Prius for all the "techy" cool stuff rather than MPG, but now that I'm on PriusChat and seeing what other can achieve, I want to see what I can do!

I love reading how into their cars every one here is and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I want to add to the discussion here! I'm kinda annoying my co-workers with extolling the virtues of this new car but I'm the boss so they have to listen to me!

I'm sorry about helping to create a 2010 prius shortage, but not that sorry!:rockon:

I'd like to suggest finding a good site to track your mileage. I'm fond of MyHybridCar.com but there are others including the EPA site. Take your time since you'll probably have many years to live with the decision. <grins>

There are lots of opportunities to contribute, especially in understanding the vehicle technical characteristics. If you decide to build your own instrumentation or investigate new areas, you might consider visiting the Yahoo Group, "Prius Technical Stuff" that dates back to the very first Prius in 2000. The message archives are a rich source of historical data and you'll find a lot of interesting technical photos, studies and data.

BTW, one my favorite tricks is to take someone out to lunch and let them drive back. Hands on and personal experience does a great job of converting the skeptical and eliminating fear of the unknown.

it's eerie, the similarities

i am hanging on to the 02 for my 15.75 yr old daughter, who will try for her permit this week. i have dreams that it will accompany her to college. it's the perfect car for that - not too much power, dependable, airbags, and cheap to run and insure.

 

We came into our PRIUS via CARS. Traded in our 1995 Ford Explorer (17 MPG, 125K miles). Planned on keeping it until it died completely, but the $4500 for a 15 year old vehicle with only one or two years left was too good to pass up.

Having too much fun driving it! Took delivery 7/24 and still haven't had to put in gas!
