Prius recall... does it effect PiP?

I just thought since you are the only one with a plug-in that has received a letter for the recall you could confirm it a the owners site. At least make sure you have your dealer run your vin number and confirm that you really need the recall done! Just to double check, and let us know how it turns out.

 

You don't recall a product that is a different design and doesn't have the problem to "play it safe". Add Nissan to the "recall" surge. Although not specific to the EV system, there apparently was a problem where a passenger was not properly detected and the passenger air bags did not deploy in an accident.

Yep, this is the same info in my recall letter. I'd imagine the module referred to is likely the same in PiP as the regular Prius. After all, except for the battery and associated software I suppose, a PiP is just a regular Prius once you're out of EV range. Makes perfect sense to me that the recall would impact both models.

 

But it doesn't. It's a different design as stated above.

 

The fix is a software change related to high electrical energy demand, no hardware change. The PiP provides higher energy demand levels and the software correctly handles it. One could guess is that the fix for the regular hybrid is to change the software to be more like the PiP (and or the V). Hence, no recall for the PiP.

 

It only affected the non-plug in Prius. My 2012 non plug in was part of that recall.
