I agree this mod would not be my choice if I lived in snow country. But for back window rain, I do not need it. Though, like you, initially my wife did not understand why I did it. Now she realizes it has no functional purpose for us, so has stopped judging me for being a whack job. Well, with regard to the rear wiper anyway. :D

I believe a rear wiper is mandated for manufacturers by law for all lift-back cars in most jurisdictions. Whether the owner can remove it legally or not, is a good question.

And surely never let stuff 'block' your grill. That OEM airflow is designed for a reason! ;) :D

I'll just have to take 20 minute stops every 10 minutes to let the engine cool off. Price you pay for your "art."

I can't for the life of me find the correct size hole plug. I can find 35mm OD and 38mm OD, but nothing in-between. For now I just cut a round circle out of cardboard and used black duct tape to cover the hole.

On my 3,000 mile road trip that started with heavy rain and ended with heavy snow, I didn't once need the rear wiper.

FYI I just finished taking my rear wiper off and I found that the nut that holds the wiper arm down fits perfectly onto the bolt that mounts the wiper motor onto the car. And that bolt forms a perfectly snug fit in the rubber nipple that used to hold the wiper motor shaft. So you can use that to seal up your car instead of a plug

I realise this is an old thread, but has anyone considered that removing the rear wiper might cause the car to fail the state inspection? There are numerous comments about that in the snow-tyres threads re. TPMS, check the state laws!!!

Ive taken it off on an evo and have always passed. Now taking off the front maybe be a different story for state inspections

I've been thinking (always a dangerous thing!) and have decided after seeing the clean lines of those Prii which have this modification, this will be my next project for The ChuggyPig, after all I'm not really interested in seeing what I've just passed, but far more interested in seeing what lies ahead! ;)

It's not a project so much as a 10 min process of trying to find the right size socket. The difficult part is storing everything in a place you can remember so you can reattach it when you go to sell the vehicle.

lol. this is for some people and not for others. honestly i think i've used my rear wiper on my prii maybe 10 times in 7 years of ownership. I drive a lot too, and live in a snowy and rainy area.
