Mileage loss is of course why I avoided roof mounted systems. I read reviews of other user's mileage hit, also to around 30 mpg. I remember getting around 41.5 mpg loaded last June average up/down the mountains - 2 people, around 100 pounds of firewood and probably another 200 pounds of camping equipment. Without the rooftop drag, it's likely the same mileage hit I'd experience if I loaded the car with five adults. I don't remember last year's trip mileage with the Thule. I need to get a desert trip measured soon, although it crosses the same mountains, it takes a lower approach to reach the low desert.

The next time I pull my 1900 lb. RV with my 2011 Prius, I will be using a vapor infusion system. I'm testing it now. It looks very promising!! :D

Read about it in new thread, " Water-Alcohol Vapor Infusion System ( EWAI ) ".

What do you pull with your Prius !! Read post # 1 ..... Please post. :) Show pictures !! :)

Do you monitor your HSD with a Scangauge, specifically the coolant temps?

Perhaps something like this would benefit you?

Just got back from a 3 day trip pulling my 1900 LB RV, with about 600 LBS of weight in Prius.
Got about 24 MPG; driving 55 to 60 MPH; going 65 MPH downhill, to get a running start up the next hill.
Outside temp. up to 80 F; engine temp. 195 to 210 F. Everything looked OK!!:)

When the Texas heat reaches over 100 F; got to watch MG1 ( I do not want to get over 310 F:eek: ). This time MG1 was less than 235 F. Had my Water-Alcohol Vapor Infusion System open about 20%.
I will keep you posted !!

Wow I can't imagine pulling anything with the Prius. I get a full load of people and I feel it struggling. If I put a trailer on I don't think it could make it anywhere!

I go camping frequently with the Prius. I use this: [IMG]

It works great! I have an extra tempurpedic mattress PAD (4") that I put down. I'm tall (5'11") and I fit very comfortably. I only wish I had a sunroof to watch the stars.

So you have a shower built into the back hatch? Or is that a closet? ;)

What is the point of pulling anything with a Prius? If you enjoy camping and going slow buy a VW Westfalia .

In some of the other forums I visit, you'll need at least an F250 and preferably a dually to pull that load and be safe.:D:D:rolleyes:

Mental note to myself: never buy an used car with towing hitch.

This thread is about towing; not about TROLLING?
