What do you all recommend for a cheap bolt on hitch and cargo carrier?

Don't go cheap?...... As far as the hitch, nothing less than grade 5 bolts; grade 8 would be great!!!

Would the bolts come with whatever hitch I buy?

Also, what is the weight of the hitch itself?

When you buy class 1 hitch, 1 1/4 " grade 5 bolts comes with it.

Hitch is about 18 to 19 lbs. With 2 " ball; weight is about 21 lbs.

I have the Curt hitch, you can find them for ~$115 to ~$140, depending if you want the wiring kit.

Quick, easy install, instructions and all parts included, took maybe 30 min. including raising the back up enough to get under the bumper.

Ya, I'm really leaning towards this to get just a bit more cargo room out of my PiP. (I would be using a hitch cargo carrier)

Put mine on for cargo carrier also, use it when the gas and diesel cans need refilled. Sure keeps the smell out of the car.

Ya, that was my thought. Every now and then I need to haul a lawn mower, too. Or a trimmer. Would be really nice for stuff like that.

As to post # 65; I'm ruling out the battery fan!! It's working OK.
    Today, outside temp. was 102 F!! Engine temp. avg. was 192 to 195 F, (Highest was 198 F). MG1 avg. was 198 to 210 F, (Highest was 219 F ); MG2 avg. was 196 to 201 F, ( Highest was 212 F ); Battery fan avg. was 89 to 93 F, (Highest was 95 F). I was driving 75 to 80 MPH avg. ( Highest was 94 MPH ); with about 375 lbs; no trailer, but high RPM's for about 110 miles.
This car is just amazing !! I could have drove it faster?:)

Please post what you pull with your Prius; along with the weight. Please read post # 1. :)

Is this for a 2 inch hitch? Everything I've come across so far is 1.25

Don't think you can buy a two inch for a car like this.

We never have had any issue pulling any of this stuff. The trailer at the gas station we took on a 860 mile trip. Never went over 60mph and would never do it again because I was so worried about the car the whole time..not that it acted up or anything - but I just didn't want to wear anything out or strain it too hard. We also hauled a refridgerator, king sized bed, and multiple other things with the Prius. So many people stopped us to tell us they'd never seen a Prius haul things before! We also have a hidden hitch with Yakima bike rack.

BTW this was with our '09 Prius.

I really don't know. I know we took the trailer to recycle some metal earlier this week and the empty trailer, plus the car weighed 4120. Have no idea what the car weighs empty by itself. My husband and I were in the car - but of course, we were both in the car for the long trip too.

The trailer is 5x10. We are actually planning on selling it and getting an aluminum trailer that is lighter and easier on the car.
