Do we know the wavelength or frequency of the TSS-P radar?

The reason I ask is a high-frequency diode with a linear amplifier might be used as a signal detector so we might map out the transmitter strength map.

There was a considerable amount of road mist picked up by the leading car. Speculation but I wonder if the dirt and water was more of a signal attenuation problem that say a greater distance where the rain itself would be less conductive?

I had forgot that Bob owns the Plus version. The Prime Plus does not include the radar feature behind the Toyota logo up front. Does that radar addition allow the Dynamic Cruise Control to work more reliably?

And I didn't know that the Plus even had the Dynamic cruise function.

I stand very corrected. Thank you. I pulled out my full dealer brochure just now. Standard DRCC from Plus, and up. Wow, thanks, Toyota. Used to have to pay much more to get that. Or, I guess we are all paying for that.

It would have been strange t not offer that on the Prime Plus but have it standard on the Prius Two. Then again, I have a spare tire that the Prime Plus lacks.

Sigh. I guess radar isn't quite as new as it once was, in 1930's. Heck, they aren't even capitalizing the R anymore.

It is/was/used to be. Now it is just referred to as "radar."

It could be so common now as to be included in anything. For example I'd like to have a radar activated coffee cup. If it slips out of my hand (has happened often), the cup would sense a drop onto the floor, unleashing miniature air bags, thus preventing it from cracking into pieces, hopefully upright, and hold most of the remaining coffee. Or a radar pen, retracting the ink cartridge for me - no click or spin. And I want the patents.

    Susssshhh!!!
    1. The Elan Musk version slightly accelerates to hold the liquid and then does a cold-gas retro maneuver to orient and gently land on the floor.
    2. The 3M version has a post-it adhesive that glues the cup to your hand.
    3. The iCup has a handle that gently but firmly grasp the fingers until the cup is empty.
    4. The Android Cuppa has a handle that works like the iCup, larger, but breaks every 10th time.
    5. The Gerber cup has a top that automatically seals in zero-G and bounces.
    6. The Dyson version has a small but powerful vacuum pump that holds the hand to the cup.

The only thing I can see is that the car wasn’t fully in your lane when he brakes so the radar probably did t sense it as an obstacle in your lane (but rather it’s in the adjacent lane)

I do not think the radar is that precise. I have had it react to braking in an adjacent lane too many times on straight road to believe that.

Err it shouldn’t react and it should be that precise. The only time it reacts to a car in the adjacent lane is in moderate curve. (Until your steering wheel angles catches up and it ignores the car)

at the very end of the video just before it cuts out you see the radar-ready pop-up. Notice that there was NO car shown in the overlay (one appears when the radar detects a vehicle). For whatever reason, the radar never picked up the vehicle at all, even after breaking and when you were very close to it.

at that range I would have expected it to have detected a strong enough return, but apparently not.

I wonder if you had a buildup on your radome that strongly attenuated the signal and the process of breaking allowed it to slosh off (or the more intense spray from the car in front washed it away).

bit worrisome that it showed not detection at that range.

I think the Post-It version might be a 3M product.

The idea for the Post-it note was conceived in 1974 by Arthur Fry as a way of holding bookmarks in his hymnal while singing in the church choir. He was aware of an adhesive accidentally developed in 1968 by fellow 3M employee Spencer Silver. No application for the lightly sticky stuff was apparent until Fry's idea. The 3M company was initially skeptical about the product's profitability, but in 1980, the product was introduced around the world. Today, Post-it notes are sold in more than 100 countries.

Expressing my decision tree for using either the BMW i3-REx or Prius Prime looks like this:
    1. +100 mile trip - Prius Prime due to superior gasoline highway mileage and range, +56 MPG Prime and 600 mile gas segments vs. 40 MPG and 75 mile gas segments BMW i3-REx.
    2. +50F and 3 stop trip - Prius Prime due to more efficient EV operation.
    3. -50F or +3 stop trip - BMW I3-REx because it does not have the cold induced engine operation and three times the EV range of the Prime.
Either car works and can backup the other. If I had to choose, the Prius due to reliability, TSS-P, and long range legs. In this case, the Consumer Reports score is accurate:
    • 77 - Prius Prime
    • 66 - BMW i3-REx

Great and still in one piece! It could be upgraded to 60 MPG. I'm getting 48...

I have the shark fin antenna, sheep skin seat covers and the PCV OCC installed.

Still no oil burning or inverter problems knock on wood
