I had a 2011 Ford Fiesta with over 100k miles on it that I sold to Vroom for I think $2400. Carvana was offering a smidge over $1000. I was paranoid they'd get my car and then tell me they'd drop their offer but no! Doing the paperwork via FedEx is kind of a hassle because it'd just take a few minutes to do in person, but no one locally was giving that kind of money, so it was worth it.

That feels like a $6k + vehicle in today's market!

Almost all dealers are marking up the MSRP like crazy, $3k mark up is the norm. Luckily found one in South Jersey (Holman Toyota), there is no mark up, and then plus whatever Toyota rebates. There is a $599 processing fee. I've ordered one but might take 2-4 months. Hope Toyota still keep or even increase the rebate by then.

Ha, maybe! At the time it felt like a steal considering the check engine light would come on intermittently and the best offers I was fielding were less than half what I eventually got.

For giggles, I checked Auto Trader just now and there was one in my old car's trim for like $9k for sale. What a goofy market this is right now. Oh well. I wasn't going to be able to sit on this car for months on end hoping that chip shortage-driven inflation would make this typically-depreciating asset appreciate to unforeseen heights. I got a great deal on the PP before the market ballooned, so I'm feeling good with it.

Oh man, I was about to go to Holman Toyota on Monday! So it was just MSRP and nothing else? I went all the way down to Gateway Toyota in Tom's River because they offered a Costco deal. However, that deal was $350 under MSRP + $3k in their extra protection coatings and stuff, which I know is pretty BS. If Holman is doing straight MSRP I might go there. The tax credit is surely gonna expire on Toyotas on 6/30, and without that I'd probably just get on Ioniq or something else.

I have not heard anything about Toyota is hitting that 200k limit yet. Just checked the government website (Federal Tax Credits for All-Electric and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles) and there is no mention about that, is that true?

Toyota will hit the 200K mark sometime this year, and phase-out will start most likely sometime this year. IRS is not going to announce anything until it is reached. Read this thread for more details.

FYI, I see $1500 Toyota cash offer on 2022 Primes for that region, also. Make sure that comes off below MSRP and that they don't add it to their profit/markup.

Toyota only has to sell 7,658 qualifying vehicles in Q1 to run out of rebates. Once they run out, the rebates still qualify for cars purchased in the following quarter (ending 6/30). Even with the chip shortage it would be a miracle if Toyota didn't sell that many qualifying vehicles in Q1. The forum won't let me post a link because I'm a new user, but you can just google the sales figures to confirm.

Also, word to the wise, the courts have already addressed that the rebate applies when you RECEIVED the car not when it was ordered. Even if the dealer and your accountant tells your otherwise.

Ah, man. I was hoping we had at least another year or so before the phase out, but I suppose this means that if you're looking to buy a PP or RAV4 Prime then you had better act fast. I'm currently debating whether I should sell my '21 XLE, trade it for a '22 or possibly a RAV4 Prime. I wouldn't normally consider such an expensive vehicle, but seeing the demand for the RAV4 is high, and the fed tax credit will likely be gone by the end of the year, it might actually be the better move. I'm currently sitting about $9k in the black on my 10 month old new car purchase. Crazy times...

I convinced my best friend to do this, he has a 2020 Rav4 and would be in the black by trading it for a 2022 Rav4 Prime after the tax credit. No brainer, right? Well, the rub is finding a Rav4 Prime at or near MSRP by the end of June. He called some local dealers and any of them selling at a reasonable price were predicting 6 months or so in Tennessee. The Toyota dealer I spoke to yesterday in NJ estimated they could get a Rav4 prime by the end of June but couldn't guarantee it. So, if you're going to go this route you better start moving ASAP and even then it'll probably be a roll of the dice if you can get a Rav4 before the tax credits expire, so you better make sure any deposit is refundable!

Yeah, there are a lot of us in a similar situation. The only problem is finding a replacement vehicle be that PP or Rav4Prime. Especially, finding one without markup is going to be very hard.

Hey Tim, I'm your neighbor across the bridge in Northern Delaware. I haven't had any luck finding a R4P anywhere nearby. Seems you have to search pretty far to find one that is both available and around MSRP. My issue is my wife and I like the PP, so we could always just go with a new one, which is a bit easier to find and still has the $1500 rebate. We also are interested in the R4P, but at these prices you can almost buy a BEV like the Mustang Mach E, ID.4, or similar (assuming you can find one not marked up). I think what entices me the most is the clock is ticking on the Toyota PHEVs being tax credit eligible, so I've got a bit of FOMO on that one. Ultimately the plan is to go full EV in the next few years, but the R4P (and PP to a lesser extent) seems like a reasonable stepping stone, especially considering the equity we would have after a year or so.

Funny question...but does anyone know of dealers that ARE NOT charging market adjustments? I was looking at a 22 limited at Basil Toyota in Lockport NY and they have a 2500 market adjustment. I know the dealers are out there that don't do mark ups but they are far and few between.

I see Holman Toyota isn't doing mark ups so I just inqiured about a limited PP they have in transit to them.

Vroom will give me 29,500 for my 21 xle. If I can find a Limited 22 white or silver with no mark ups I think I will make the move.

Going further east in NY, Lia Toyota of Colonie and New Country of Clifton Park (both near Albany) have a couple of Primes listed around MSRP. Lia has a magnetic gray Limited for 35k on their website. Can't say I've seen many Limiteds and I check just to see every little while so not sure how picky you can get in regards to color.

I got my XLE from New Country in October and they didn't have any market adjustment markup at the time.

It's tough because as you've probably noticed some dealers are good about removing sold stock from their websites and others are happy to list a vehicle in transit even though it was already spoken for 2 months ago by another customer.

Just drove from Detroit to Luv in Lakewood NY to pick up an LE at MSRP (-$1500 incentive) without any dealer "additives". They had an XLE as well and may have had others on the way, and evidently get them somewhat regular (NOT the case here in the midwest). Ask for Aaron O.
Also, Batavia had one with a $1000 markup because I was out of state, but then the $1500 off. Almost went that route till I found Luv(haha).
What blows my mind is the number of dealers that don't use Autotrader or the like. Luv was not showing up at all till they were, then voila, four more primes on my search (and they had had at least a couple prior to the appearance on Autotrader).
