    You might be on to something - maybe just have the next gen "Prius" be based off the Corolla.

    sales 2021 through Q3:
    Prius : 28,631
    Prius Prime: 22,407
    Corolla hybrid: 23,258

    all dwarfed by the highlander, venza, sienna and rav sales, of course! 'mericans just don't buy "cars" anymore. They love them trucks and SUVs.

    They should come out with a Corolla Prime. Give it 40 miles on a full charge. Keep the prices lower with less tech and such. Would sell well I think.

    Problem is Toyota's tax credit is running out and it's going to cost Toyota too much to build it with a large battery. The sticker price will have to be high and the end user won't be able to get any tax credit so it won't sell.

    ^ The Subie twin will have a huge advantage if they qualify for $7500 tax credit and the Toyota one doesn't.

    Took me a few months to find a dealership with a car they wanted to sell me in SoCal. Then turned down a couple with $5000 markups. Put a deposit down when someone offered one with a markup that made me sure I wasn't going to lose money on the deal. Ended up getting significantly more for my old car that my initial quotes in the 27-28k range from Vroom and Carvana. Driveo gave me a quote above 30k and then Vroom beat their offer. Car didn't arrive by the end of December unfortunately.

    Couldn't get the $750 Uber driver rebate. I saw some other SoCal dealers advertising it, but the finance guy I dealt with said it was a more complicated process that you start with Uber now, you can't just walk in with an active driver account and get it anymore. Not sure if that is true or not. He did mention something about the rules of that discount only letting him write 3 or 4 year loans, so he wouldn't have wanted to give it out if he could avoid it, and could probably tell it wasn't a deal breaker for me.

    2022 LE for $29,504 + $1995 Markup + $2,993.95 TTL = $34,493

    - 1500 Toyota rebate - 500 military - 450 CA CFR = $32,043.

    Sold 2021 Prius Prime LE with 12,500 miles to Vroom for $31,010.

    Congrats on your new 2022 PP. But... WOW! $31,010 for 1-year-old PP LE with 12,500 miles. That's amazing. I will sell my 2021 PP Ltd with 1/3 of the milage for that price in a heartbeat.

    Main motivation was to reset my depreciation, odometer, and free Toyota maintenance if I could do it for no cost. It's nice they it turned out adding about $3500 in my pocket instead.

    Even without the federal tax credit, I saved $400 that I would have had to pay to register my 2021 if I didn't sell it. Vroom didn't reduce my payout for keeping the charging cable that comes with the car, and you can sell that for $300 on ebay. That would bring my total cost down to $300 for free maintenance and no depreciation.

    Used prices in general just don't make any sense for this vehicle. Car buying services were offering around 26k when I first started looking. 3 months later with another 4500 miles on the car they was up to 28k. The. The Driveo offer was nice outlier on the high side.

    Thanks for this forum for showing me what is possible.

    Ahh, can't 'like' that one.
    We cared about making money on our 2020 to 2021 swap, but definitely included the cargo cover, unused carpet mats, and cable. Knew I could profit more on eBay.... But didn't want to screw the next owner who was going to already overpay for a used Prime.

    just remember to factor in capital gains when you’re doing all this. I was gonna do something similar but decided against it because my cost basis was going to mean that my sale of my 2021 PP LE would cost me short term capital gains of around $3000. My cost basis of my 2021 was around $18k when you factor in the tax credit. So the IRS says I “made” 12k when I sell my car for 30k even though I have to turn around and buy a 2022 LE for around 32k. So I guess with the additional tax credit on the 2022 I’m only paying $500 to get a new car but it wasn’t as good of a deal numbers wise as I had originally thought when I did my math. Hopefully you had your 2021 for at least a year then you can pay long term capital gains instead. Of course if you bought your 2021 for around 30k then it actually somehow hurts less the way the math works out.

    If I sell my PP this year, I think I am going for either a base model Leaf or a base model Maverick... Either should be ~$20K +tax and fees (for Leaf after $7500 tax credit). If I have to pay $40K for a PP, I will buy a Mach-E instead.

    thanks for sharing the interesting view on capital gain tax.
    No doublt IRS can easily track what you paid originally from Toyota and what you sell from Vroom/Carvana...
    But what if you privately sell the car?? What I assume is most of the time the new owner tend to report purchase price lower to DMV to pay less sale tax...:)
    Again I don't mean to advise anything on foolng around with IRS, it is just curious if this is kind of a tax loophole

    My 2021 PP Ltd is currently in a body shop to have a minor side scrape fixed. I was curious myself what my car would be sold or trade-in. I checked the offering from both Vroom and Carvana on my 2021 PP Limited with only 4,000 miles on it. I checked it with or without accident reported. Strangely, even though the KBB gives me Very Good Condition: $30,284-$32,306 estimate, Carvana offer is $25,252 without accident reported and only $22,405 with one accident (est $1,800 repair made) whereas Vroom offer was better at $26,178 with or without one accident reported. Still, both offers are way too low compared to the KBB estimate in my area for this car.

    Considering the tax consequences of selling my 2021 PP and the scarcity of replacement cars to purchase, it does not look like I will be making a trade-in anytime soon.

    Drive a family members SUV for awhile and you REALLY miss this car. Mine is basically stuck with an enormous pile of snow behind it and it's hasn't been above freezing (it was 2 F this morning) in a couple weeks, and I'm waiting it out. but.. I can't believe how much $$ I've spent on gas already, and this new SUV gets 32MPG highway. A drive more than an hour each way and it's $20 in fuel to either get there or you need to spend it when you go to drive it the next day. Need some warmer weather! It was -11 F that's just ridiculous..
