It's like taking candy from a baby for Vroom/Carvana/etc. to sell for whatever price they want.

They self-finance (pretty sure) and approve anyone and they aren't getting 30.5k. They are probably getting $45,000 over the course of the loan.

Then a lot of people work with their cars such as uber, door dash, etc.

Kinda embarrassed to even say what I paid (22k before fees for a '17 with 86k miles LOL) but no other options. It's a 72 month loan at $530 per month so I will end up paying $38,200 over course of loan. But, it's gonna be making me money and plan on having balance paid off in 12 to 20 months.

I contacted Toyota dealership for a new car and they took my info and never even messaged me back.

Yes, you can always claim but no guarantee it will be credited. The current IRS tax code language that applies to the EV tax credit is vague on the point of "recapturing" the credit if the vehicle is no longer in possession of the original owner. I have not heard any case that IRS denied the claim or asked for the return of the credit already paid, but everyone should keep in mind that is possible according to the current tax code.

    From current IRS page:
    Recapture of Credit
If the vehicle no longer qualifies for the credit, you may have to recapture part or all of the credit. For details, see section 30D(f)(5).

The section referred to in the above clause:
    30D(5)(f)
    (5)Recapture
The Secretary shall, by regulations, provide for recapturing the benefit of any credit allowable under subsection (a) with respect to any property which ceases to be property eligible for such credit.

BTW, the previous tax code for the EV tax credit was very clear that you had to keep the car for at least 3 years to get the full credit. If sold earlier than that, the credit had to be returned, 100% for the first year, 66% for the second year, and 33% for the third year.

Yes, but I’ve since looked into it and apparently I can claim multiple tax credits in a year. I just can’t buy the cars specifically for resale.

is there a way to locate '21 Prius primes? I saw the post that there was some available in oneonta, ny. Which would be not too terrible, since I'm going to nyc in a couple weeks (live in Portland) but worried about finding a way to transport it back. It would be great if I could find one in the Pacific Northwest or California.

You can go directly to Toyota’s own site and just change your zip code to the city you are wanting to locate a vehicle. The spot to change it will be at the very top right corner. Once you’ve done that, just click on “Shopping Tools”, it’s one of the main tabs, and then “Search Inventory”.

It searches based on the zip code you put in so all you need to do at that point is select the 2021 Prius Prime and it’ll show you stock available close to that zip code. It’ll show the dealer name so you can either contact them yourself or submit your information so they contact you and should have all the promotions listed that the vehicle is eligible for (if you are looking for one that is eligible for the $4,000-$5,000 instant rebate).

While not always 100% accurate, after the initial search, you can filter by year and limit to 2021 on cars.com as well

This is where my current offer stands on a 2022 Limited. Thoughts?

    $34,000.00 -MSRP
    $995.00 -Delivery
    $1,252.00 -Manufacturer Acc.
    $85.00 -Doc Fee

    $36,332.00 -Total

Manufacturer Acc. includes special color ($425), cross-bars ($299), wheel locks ($65), carpet package ($259), rear bumper appliqué ($79) and door edge guards ($125).

They will not budge off MSRP (actually got them to come down from a $3,000 markup), and they won’t remove any accessories. I did get the $1,000 addendum taken off.

I’m eligible for the full $4,502 Federal credit, $2,000 Toyota Cash, $2,000 County grant, and $900 CA clean air rebate.

Brings my total to $26,930 + TTL.

Does this seem reasonable? I’m actually moving in the next month or two to a state that doesn’t have the $2,000 county grant or $900 state refund, so I’m weighing my options on waiting and getting a better incentive from Toyota or just buying now.

    Bad news:
"Thursday it was Toyota (TM), the world's largest automaker measured by vehicle sales, announcing shutdowns at 14 Japanese plants in September because of Covid's impact on suppliers. That will cut production there by about 40%. Toyota is also closing plants elsewhere around the globe, with North American production likely to be reduced 40% to 60%."

That's as good as you'll do unless you can wait an unknown number of months for when the Toyota rebates might go back up again liked they normally do. If the cash/rebate goes up to $4500-5500, you would lose out on $2900, so net theoretical discount would be $1600-2600. All depends on market conditions. If you need a new car, now is the time to buy.
I'd go LE as we find Android Auto and saving $6k to be a much better value, IMO.

The other important advantage of the LE is the physical climate control button setup. Having driven a Gen 2 Prius for 15 years, I assert that the climate controls were the only constant irritation. Thankfully, Priuschatters clued me in about this issue for the Prime. I am loving my 2021 Prime LE, but most of all, I am enjoying those buttons. Apparently the XLE and the Limited have a screen-oriented climate control operation.

Put a deposit down on an LE in Southern California. After calling 10+ dealers I finally found one willing to sell for MSRP. Will update if the deal actually goes through.

Toyota is doing something wrong when the lowest tier model is more desirable. For me, Fabric > Softex, the normal display with physical climate controls > 11.6" touch screen. I always use Carplay so the wireless charging pad has no upside. I would've loved to have blind spot monitoring and smart key access near the hatch but not enough to pay 6K for it with the drawbacks from the other "upgrades".

I, for one, am in no hurry to remind Toyota that the better car is cheaper. They should remain blissfully ignorant at least until it's time for me to buy a new car again.

When did they put Carplay in the LE model? Through 2021 it is only available in the higher end models.

Apple CarPlay has been available in all three trims of PP, including LE since 2020. Starting the 2021 model, LE also got Android Auto capability, but not XLE and Ltd.

Not to be a braggart, but so glad I bought in March. Price before sales tax and fees, and after tax credit, was less than $18k. People on my car forum told me I was a liar and forced me to post my contract, lol.

What was the Toyota rebate amount in March? The 2020 LE I purchased in March last year was with only $3500 rebate, but with a dealer discount, I ended up paying about $18K + tax. The total discount was about $11k. Then I just bought my 2021 in July this year, but with $5500 rebate. The total discount on this purchase after tax credit will be similar but slightly more $11750 off MSRP.

Haven't received the car yet so I have no idea if there are additional hurdles once it actually comes in and I pay for it.

I think the rebate was $5000 in the northeast and $4500 in California. (I bought from a CA dealer in March where the dealer discounts were more generous.)

Having purchased PP now three times in last 4 years, at least my experience has been that when the rebate offer increased, the dealer discount decreased, so that total discount amounts were very similar in all three purchased.
