Prius Prime - official prices paid thread

They are allowing me to bring my own in transit. Nebraska is weird in that, even if I had all the paperwork, I could not register the car without having it with me for inspection due to being from out of state. Here, we don’t register and pay taxes at the dealer, but rather have 30 days to do it at the DMV.

 

What is all this talk of a $5,500 toyota rebate on the prime? I wasn’t offered that at all the other day.

It must be regional.

 

I started reading the chat forums again. And it made me wonder if I could get a decent deal maybe even lower my monthly payments on my current Prius prime. In November 2019 I bought a 2020 Prius prime and got a pretty good deal on it -it was about 27,000 and I financed most of it and I currently owe 21,000 on it. it’s an XLe blue magnetism with black interior. I like the car and I would want to get another one but is it kind of not a smart idea to let go of my now used car to get myself into a new one. But that $5500 cashback rebate in New England and then the $4500 tax credit could make it less than what I’m paying right now. I’ve got about 18,000 miles on my current 2020 XLe. It’s financed through a credit union. I live in Rhode Island so I recognize a lot of the dealers that people are going to. What do you guys think?

 

First, make sure you have the tax liability to use the credit.

Second, I think this is a great plan. I would start with getting some used prices for your model on carvana and carmax. Then you can run the numbers. New toyota discounts happen tonight for the cashback. As for dealer pricing,at worst case you can assume no dealer markdown. Happy hunting.

 

From posts on this forum the regions where the rebates are offered tend to be the North East and California. And the amount of the current Toyota rebate varies by region.

 

We've done it the past three years in a row for little more than the cost of a new set of tires, and that was with lower MFG rebates than the $5500. Work the numbers and, if it looks good, go for it!

 

Having been told that I will start going back to daily commuting for my work, I am finally at a Toyota dealer to decide on the purchase of 2021 PP before the current rebate offer expires tomorrow. Working out the numbers right now, but it seems with very low inventory, they are not going to budge much below MSRP for the sales price. Still, with $5500 Toyota rebate and $1000 state rebate, plus a small dealer discount of about $525, the final price is likely to be less than what I expect to pay for any other new cars of this class.

Plus with an expected $4500 tax credit next year, I am likely to be ahead if I decide to sell it quickly and get a BEV or Rav4 Prime next year.

I will likely close the deal today. Will see, if the offer continues next month and what happens to the inventory.

Not the color and model I like, if I had a choice. But this was the only one left on the lot. The salesperson said (or lied) to me that they aren't getting any more 2021 PP. I figured, after a $4502 tax credit next year, the sale price would drop to $23,727. Knowing that I got $21,500 for a 10-month-old 2020 PP LE if I don't drive this car much and keep it clean, I should be able to recoup most of the cost, even if not for a profit, next year when I may switch to a BEV or Rav4 Prime.

 

Now it's time to get used to the Soft-tex & 12" touch-screen
I really hope we still gonna have same cash back deal next year for 2023 xchange, gonna be even better if 23 is the next gen

No getting used to Softex & 11.6" touch-screen for me. I hate both of them. If I had a choice, I would have definitely bought the LE model. I will likely purchase a cheap cloth seat cover at least for the driver's seat. and will keep the 11.6" screen turned off 99% of the time. Not having the Android Auto projection on Ltd model ( I am not an iPhone user), I will not miss much for not having the screen on. The only time I will likely turn it on is when I am forced to use the onboard navi, which would be a very rare occasion for me. While driving the 2017 PP Premium with the 11.6" screen, I have learned that most of the essential operations, such as HVAC and Audio controls can be performed from the steering wheel buttons and MID display.

My gut feeling is that Toyota is going to end the $5500 rebate after it expires tomorrow and waits for the 2022 PP models, which are essentially non-changed carry-over models, to roll into the dealership, that is if they have enough numbers of 2022 PPs produced soon. I don't think they will offer much rebates at least for a while until the production picks up and inventory is plenty. Will see what happens the day after tomorrow.

No, I did not trade-in. I sold my 2020 PP LE 8 months ago. I have been car-less for the last 8 months, but having sold the car and putting the proceed of the sale into an investment account and finally receiving the $4500 tax credit money from IRS for the 2020 PP purchase recently, plus saving the money that I did not have to pay for the tax, registration, and insurance for last 8 months saved enough money to buy this car with cash.

 

500 off sounds about right for June, barring the dealer looking to sweeten the pot for end of month. Note: A Mass. dealer shows a 2022 showing up now!

Haha … I bought 2021 Limited last week. Low inventory and $5500 TMS ending rumor made me pull trigger.

Sold 2020 PRIME XLE to Carvana for $26k ($1k more than purchase price in October 2020). No dealer offered more than $22k for trade in.

I’ll post exact numbers when I get car. Meantime, congratz w/ your new PP!

Yeah, I was hoping for more discounts. But with low inventory and the imminent arrival of the 2022 model, I did not want to miss the opportunity. I could wait a few more months before I start going back to my daily commuting routine, but I did not want to be in a situation I had to buy a car and no deal to be found in a few months from now.

Wow, $26K for XLE is excellent, if you paid $25K for it, that means you actually got a net profit of $5500 after the $4500 off from that price for the tax credit? I got my 2020 for ~$22K and sold it for $21.5, but got $4500 tax credit after the sale, so it was a net profit of ~$4K without counting tax and fees, but add the tax and fees to the price, still, it was a net profit of about $2500.

 

Is anyone waiting a year, to see 1.) if the 2023 models are a new generation and 2.) if congress increases the tax credits. It’s passed the senate finance committee. Up to $12,500.

 

I am not waiting for the 2023 or whatever year model that is going to be the new generation Prius. But yeah, when it is out, I will consider it to be my next car. The rumor is that Gen5 Prius will be out at the end of 2013 and may come to the US in early 2014, but no detail on what the new Prius is going to be. At least for people living in North East and CA, there is no point in waiting, since buying a current model with a huge discount is quite lucrative. In a couple of years, I am sure we will have far more choices of BEVs and PHEVs in wider price ranges.

As for the new EV incentives, I thought the current bill is restricting the $12,500 credit to only domestic makers? I have not done much research, so I may be wrong on this. One of the big changes is that if the new bill passes, then the EV tax credit may become refundable tax credit. That would be a big plus for people like me who has lower tax liability. In any case, there is no reason not to take advantage of the current tax credit of $4500 on the current model of PP with a large cashback from Toyota.

 

I bought this car in mid June, picked the car up at a Vermont dealer and went on vacation driving the car home to the Cincinnati area. The dealer picked us up at the airport, did all the sales work and financing online or over the phone. Paid via wire transfer. After arriving at the dealer, we were was in and out within 1/2 hour. Full tank of gas included.

For me I am willing to trade off spaces for longer range like 45-50 per charge. I am not ready for BEV. PHEV still works best, especially with the efficiency of Toyota hybrid tech.
Yesterday we took a 200 miles trip all HV and got 68mpg. This car amazes me every single day.

Mississippi had no rebates. $34,335 for a 2021 Prius Prime Limited in magnetic grey.

They did give me every dollar I paid for my 2019 Prius (regular) xle as trade so I felt better about that part at least.

Wanted to at least see a blue magnetism before buying, but none were available anywhere close.

 

Well, I was wrong. Toyota extended the current $5500 rebate on 2021 PP until 8/2/21 in New England region. I did not check on other regions, but I assume they extended the current level in other regions as well. But with 2022 PP started to show up on the dealership lots, I am sure that before the rebate runs out, the 2021 PPs will be all gone. Toyota just wants to sell all the rest of 2021 PP, and my guess is that until all the 2021 models are gone, they are not likely to give a matching rebate on the 2022 models. BuyaToyota.com website does not have 2022 PP models out yet.
