Only New England has the $5500 rebate right now so that is your best bet. Some people have even flown in for the rebate and driven home. A few dealers deliver so you they could meet in NYC instead of further north

 

I was able to get $4500 Toyota rebate + $1500 dealer discount in the Baltimore area a month ago (Heritage Toyota). Not as a good as some here, but it was way better than anything in the Chicago area.

I started with TrueCar, and emailed a bunch of dealers that had a lot of PPs on their website. Most didn't go below the $4500, but some did. It also helped that I didn't need a car and wasn't in a hurry.

 

I'm also from the Chicago area and will be purchasing out of state. How did you do the registration process? Did the dealer take care of that for you or did you take care of it when you returned to Illinois (I.e. pay taxes, get plates, etc.). I've never purchased out of state before, so just trying to figure out the process.

 

Got my 750 uber rebate from Bill Kidds Toyota in the mail today. If you haven't followed my saga, long story short... dealer said they couldn't do the rebate but I could submit for the rebate to come directly to me. I took the dealers word for it during purchase but found a couple days later that this isn't true the Uber rebate is a dealer reimbursed incentive. After some short phone calls with Toyota Corp, today I got my $750 check in the mail from the dealer. So my final price for my 21 XLE,

26,825 OTD taxes license and other fees
Plus 875 transport from dealer to my home in Indiana
Less 750 Uber incentive
Less 4502 Tax rebate

Less 9000 I got from selling my 2014 Prius

Not too bad, just a bit more work than I had hoped because Bill Kidds doesn't know Wth they are doing with the Uber incentive.

 

Prime inventory looks to be drying up in the Northwest. Way fewer cars available in OR then there used to be. Almost no new Toyotas on the lot at all in WA/OR.

 

The dealer is lazy in this case. I got Uber discount $750 deducted from the list price.

 

oh I know. I told Toyota Corp and the GM that it seems their sales people and sales manager need training on how this incentive works. Would have saved everyone a ton of time to just apply it from the start like its supposed to work.

 

They gave me a temporary MD license and submitted the paperwork (and collected the IL sales tax) to register in IL. I'm supposed to get my new plates in the mail, but I haven't yet. Hopefully, they will arrive soon. Searching for my license plates is not something I want to do. I wanted to transfer plates, but was told they've had issues in the past so only do new plates.

This is what most dealers said they do with out of state buyers. At least they're earning their "doc fee".

It was pretty much like buying local, except I had to have proof of insurance on the new car before I could take possession. This meant I had to call my agent, transfer the policy from the car I was replacing, and have them generate a temporary insurance card and send it to me. In my experience in IL, having current insurance on a car is enough. With my State Farm coverage, I have automatic 30 day coverage if I buy a car. That is, both old and new cars are covered for up to 30 days. I don't know if this is a standard IL thing, or just something I was lucky to have.

 

I've been looking for a Prime for my parents and in the NY / Tri-State area there is much less inventory than even a few weeks ago. Some of the dealers are not giving any dealer discount on the Primes at this point (though some still are).

 

Thanks for the insight. One of my main concerns is not getting the new plates from Illinois before the temporary license expire. Planning to fly out on Friday to pick it up and drive back.

I could be wrong, but I don't think many IL cops would bother someone with just an expired out of state license plate unless it is many months expired. Not their job to enforce the laws of other states. Assuming they even notice since there's not many temporary out of state license plates around. At least that is what I'm counting on. I guess worst case I could show them that the paperwork has been filed.

 

Some Vermont and Mass dealers will offer free delivery to NY. I’m taking a 2 hour bus to NYC for my delivery and they are brining it from Vermont

 

Noticed that my MD temporary license is good for 2 months so hopefully the IL DMV can work within those "tight" constraints.
