Yes, we did buy. My post on a previous page detailed the pricing and trade-in (which made the deal vs other dealer offers).
The Uber incentive is something that comes from Toyota (similar to Military or other promotions). You need to be an "active" driver - which entails signing up for Uber, getting your current vehicle to pass inspection ($30 for a remote one), and their other requirements. Well worth doing for $750. Start this now, as it can take a week or more your first time.

I want to thank you again for your recommendation. I messaged them and got a price quote of $22.3k. I didn't go the uber route since I'm not a driver and have no intention of being one. I felt $22.3k was a fair price. They didn't try to tack on any costly add ons like alarms or paint protections. The only thing they did push hard for was a 10 year extended warranty for $4k lol. I politely declined. The total came out to just over $25k out the door so after the fed and state rebates and incentives my total price will be around $19.5k.

    Mr MTN

Can you share the dealer info, where this magic worked ?
How did you manage to pull that 22,000 trade in

Dealer named above - Buena Park Autonation.
The cash offer from places like Carvana, Vroom, etc was $19,500-20,300 +/-
Negotiated with the dealer for them to beat that, as it was a trade-in for a purchase and not just a cash sale. Also repeat customer seemed to help. (KBB and NADA trade in price was $21.5k-23.5k)

I just picked up a new Prius Prime LE in the Boston area for 21.7k (includes recent grad incentive). Ended up being 23.7k OTD. Might have been able to get it a little lower if I walked out at the end and went to another place but I thought it was fair and didn't want to spend a few more hours of my life at dealerships.

So 23.7k - 1.5k (MA rebate) - 4.5k fed credit = 17.7k for a new LE. Sounds good to me.

Purchased my 2017 Prime Premium remotely from CA in November 2020. Couldn't find any used Blue Magnetisms for sale in my state!
    • 60,155 miles
    • Illuminated door sills, door edge guards, carpet mats, rear bumper applique
    • $16,500 sale price (does not include taxes, transport fee, PIP, WA registration fees)
    • I was pissed that the dealership did not mention that I'd get only one remote key. Had to pay my local Toyota dealer in Seattle $$$ for a new, programmed key.
I obviously didn't qualify for any tax credits on a used car, but I'm pretty pleased overall with the deal.

How is the sales tax calculated, based on (35485 - 700) or (35485-700-5000)?
I also don't know what is the $5000 Toyota rebates. The rebate in Southern CA is only $4000 (3000+1000).

It's a federal tax credit for purchasing a plug in vehicle. For the Prius Prime, it's up to $4502 depending on your tax liability. If you buy in 2021, you'll file it in 2022 for your 2021 taxes.

    That's a credit not a rebate

You don't get that money unless you owe on your taxes

Sales tax is based on the (MSRP- Dealer Discount ) before the $4000 or whatever amount Toyota takes off in addition

2021 Prius Prime LE, Black on Black
    Purchase Date: 02/26/2021
    State Purchased: MD

    Purchase Price: $21,961
    Price Breakdown:
    Base MSRP $ 28,220
    Freight Charge $ 995
    Total MSRP $ 29,215
    Factory Cash Back -$ 4,000
    Toyota Bonus Cash -$ 500
    Dealer Discount -$ 2,754
    Subtotal $ 21,961

Added were things like tax, tags, processing (MD has a dealer processing limit of $500). Although maybe not the absolute best price possible for an LE, I went with this specific dealer because they gave me the best value for my trade-in of a more expensive vehicle (in a sense downgraded due to pandemic and job situation).

I am on my third Prius Prime in three years, thanks in part to favorable tax breaks, and realize the process can be somewhat confusing. Our first PP was purchased at the end of the year, just days after non-retirement mutual funds declared year end dividends and a fourth quarter estimated tax payment had already been made (to avoid underpayment penalties). We scampered around trying to determine if we had screwed ourselves by not "owing" enough to cover the EV credit.

After some angst we discovered the credit does not require you still "owe" payment (as in not having paid enough yet so you deduct it from the payment you remit), but your total tax LIABILITY is large enough to absorb some or all of the calculated credit (still $4502 for PPs). Makes no difference if you've already covered you tax liability in full and don't owe any more or have not yet fully paid, the "credit"still applies.

Be advised though that it is non-refundable tax credit and can only reduce liability to zero. Any amount that remains from the credit is automatically forfeited (cannot be carried over to the next tax year).

    2021 Prime Limited

    MSRP 37685
Incentive 4500 (ended on March 1st)
    sale price 33185
    CA incentive 900
    Federal Tax Credit 4500

Grand spankin total 27785 which ends up being less than the 2 year old used Prime Premium we were considering

Just to be clear, "owing" on taxes refers to total your tax liability for the year, not how much you may owe due to underpayment throughout the year in paycheck withholding, correct?

So for example, if my total calculated tax for the year comes out to be 10,000, but I paid 11,000 in paycheck withholdings I get a 1000 refund from the IRS and still quality for an additional 4502 credit, so I get a check for 5502 correct?
