TSS 2.0 is a huge improvement over TSS 1.0. Steering also seems better in 2021.

If you buy a 2020, you will buy an already-depreciated car. If you buy a 2021, you can trade it in for a 2022, with further possible improvements, at no cost or a profit in December.

How does the math works on "at no cost or a profit"? I'm intrigued

 

I got a quote on a LE for $24900 out the door, after Toyota's $4000 and California's $900.11 and dealership discounts. Is this a good price? This is for Norcal/bay area.

 

After the tax credit and state and local rebates, it's possible to trade in your car for more than you paid for it, including the tax and fees.

You may have to hold it at least until early January for the credits and rebates to be legal though; so, check the rules.

 

You seem like a real pro in pricing, and we live in the same state - is $24900 OTD a good price for the 2021 LE?

 

You not only need to know the OTD price but also the full price breakdown. If the dealer discount is more than $2,000 and there are no unusual fees, it's a good deal.

 

First time buying a car here, so sorry if this is a silly question - why do I need the full price breakdown? Isn't the OTD price what's ultimately the most important?

 

OTD price alone is meaningless. You are comparing apples and oranges if you don't have a full price breakdown. Trims, options, accessories, taxes, fees, rebates, etc. vary. To give an example, if you pay $100 less OTD for a car than for another with $1,000 extra in accessories, you're not getting a good deal. Taxes vary according to your residential address, and you need to account for that. You may have $100 lower OTD this month in comparison to last, but when you account for the $500 increase in the rebate, it's a bad deal. You get the idea.

Gotcha. This is the breakdown I got:

MSRP $29384
After rebates and discounts: $22750
Sales tax and fees: $2988.99
OTD: $25738.99

This hasn't included a state incentive $900.11 where I live, so after that the OTD price will be sub-$25k. This means a dealer discount of $2634 which according to this thread is pretty awesome? I tried getting another dealership to beat this but they said they probably can't...

 

This is a few hundred cheaper than I paid after contacting a plethora of dealers across NorCal. The MSRP on my LE was $29,809 due to the special color -- Wind Chill Pearl, and all weather floor mats. I ended up getting mine as mentioned previously in this thread for $25.5K OTD after the $900.11 CCFR Rebate. Your pricing would be roughly $25.3K if you compared to the MSRP on mine. I would say you are getting a really good deal based on my recent experience. Good luck with your quest!

 

That is not a full price breakdown. Ask the dealer to provide you with a full price breakdown. They will do so, as it's their legal responsibility. They will need your residential Zip code to calculate the correct tax.

 

What does a full breakdown look like then? I know this includes all weather mats and liners, Toyota's $4000 rebate, California's $900.11, and a dealer discount of $2579.

 

That is a pretty good price. I’d pull the trigger on that deal if I was looking for an LE.

I just purchased a 2021 Prime XLE this week with MSRP at $31.22k for $26.00k OTD. Dealer discount was about $3k plus $4.9k in Toyota and CA clean fuel rebates. No trade in. Dealer fees were about $130. Sales tax is 8.25% where I live. I’m in the SF Bay Area (North Bay).

 

It should be the official price breakdown, with itemization of each taxable and nontaxable item such as rebates, discounts, fees, etc. and taxes separately. However, that's a good dealer discount, and you should buy the car at that price if the trim and color are what you're looking for.

I don't know why all-weather mats have become more common than carpet mats. They don't look good. Incidentally both were included with my 2021 Prius Prime Limited Blue Magnetism, and I'm storing the all-weather mat package.

There are a few regions where Toyota doesn't have rebates on the Prime. Unfortunately, you live in one of those regions. Fortunately, Toyota is one of a few manufacturers where you get the rebate based on where the dealer is located, not where the car will be registered. If you want to save some money, fly to the Northeast to save $4000+. I think there's an additional $1000 rebate if you finance with Toyota in CT, NJ, and NY. So that's $5000 off before any dealer discounts. See how much Carvana and Vroom will offer for your car. Good luck.
