With who did you dealt at Koons?
I send an inquiry to the sales manager and I had 4 sales people emailing me.

Why do you need an EV friendly state to buy a prime? You can still get most of the benefits from having your prime, no matter where you live, and you don't have to buy in the state you live in. I saved about 10 grand by buying a $100 plane ticket to go to where the cars were.

    Hi all,
We live in Pittsburgh and are looking for a 2020 Prius Prime XLE. Do you all have any suggestions for how to find the best deal? Should we be looking in Maryland?

Yes, you should go to MD because we have the $4,500 cash back from Toyota on the 2020 Primes. I just got mine yesterday at Bill Kidd's Toyota in Timonium. I had been looking for 3 months or so and had a great experience at this dealership, after visiting 5 others. The salesman, Don Soltys, was so easy to deal with . He has been there for 34 years! He told me that people are coming from PA, Georgia and other states to buy them in MD because of Maryland's rebate. You better hurry, though, as they're selling very fast now. Since they have gotten the 2021 models in, they are still discounting as well.
I just looked on their website and they have 8 XLE 2020 Primes in stock. Look up Bill Kidd's Toyota Timonium. Good luck!

Thanks! I'm looking at Koons Toyota, Jim Coleman Toyota, and Bill Kidd's Toyota. Although I am being tempted by the Limiteds now...

Whichever "Toyota Sales Region" offers the biggest discount (usually North-east incl NY, MD, etc.; I got mine in Buffalo, NY and drove it home to Illinois) and then bargain with the closest dealer by referring to the lowest price you can find on cars.com.

I only pay about $200 a year to fuel my Insight to drive about 7000 miles, the prime would replace the insight.

The taxes are about equal to my current fuel expenses which makes it not worth while.

    Limited
2021 Prius Prime Limited Edition Blue Magnetism
    Purchase date: 2020/11/16
    MSRP: $35,742 (including options)
Options: CF (carpet mat package) $259, D5 (door edge guards) $125, Z6 (preferred accessory package with all-weather lines) $363 (strange that it came with both types of mats)
    Dealer discount: -$2,440.69
    Taxable document fee: $85
    Nontaxable fees: $481 ($275 license, $169 registration, $7 tire, $30 electronic registration)
    Nontaxable Toyota factory rebate: -$1,750
Sales tax (10.25%): $3,442.10 (based on the ZIP code you live in)
    Total out-the-door (OTD): $35,539.41
Rebates and credits: $6,502 ($4,502 IRS, $1,000 California, $1,000 Southern California Edison)
Actual cost after rebates and credits: $28,637.41 (after subtracting the $400 annual vehicle registration)

Actual cost of the Prius Prime 2020 XLE Classic Silver Metallic: $23,928.18 (including taxes and fees but not the annual registration)
2020 XLE traded in at the price: $23,000 (slightly higher than what Carvana offered)

So, in summary effectively the 2020 XLE almost cost nothing for me to own, including the taxes and fees—as good as it gets for the depreciation of a car. I got a good deal on the trade-in and dealer discount. Hard negotiators can squeeze another $500–$1,000 out of the OTD price and trade-in with the right dealer. However, don't expect to get anywhere close to this deal unless you shop around. Most dealers offered me only $20,000 on the trade-in and very little dealer discount.

Just got this price quote over an email. This is actually the lowest I’ve ever seen a dealer give me. Do you think it’s pretty good or should I try for lower? What would I say? What would you do?

Also Nevada gives a tax trade in credit where California doesn’t but dealer fees in Nevada are $500 but in California they’re $80.

    Get it!

However, thanks to a tip by the digital manager at Longo Toyota, such things are not quotes. Ask them to send you a full quote with all taxes and fees and the actual OTD price, as what I have above, and they will. Then you actually know what to really expect when you get to the dealer. A real quote example by Longo Toyota is shown below.

This was actually the initial quote by them. If you look at my previous post, you can see that I had the OTD price lowered by $972.44 after having them match the real quote by another dealer. They wouldn't accept an informal offer like yours for matching; so, I asked the other dealer for an actual quote with the full breakdown and OTD price, and they sent it right away, which I then forwarded and had matched.

That’s so smart. My family normally goes to Longo and deals with the fleet manager, however, now that I’ve moved states it’s just easier and best to buy it in Nevada but they don’t budge. So I’m trying to find the best possible deals and quotes so hopefully they can match it. Maybe because it’s a Limited trim and they’re sometimes they’re hard to find. I feel like it’s near impossible to get a 2021 OTD for between 29-30k

How is that even ever possible for a Limited? That would be $10,000–$11,000 below MSRP.

I’m not sure but I saw someone got a deal like that when Toyota was offering the $4,500 Toyota cash. Insane deal. With all dealership I’ve been dealing with, seems like the lowest they go is $32 OTD which I think I’m happy with. I’ll let you know!
