Hello all. I need some advice please. Sorry if this is not the right page.

I have a 2017 Prius Two and live in VA. The HOV Special Clean Fuel license plates I've had since 2011 will no longer allow me to drive on Rt. 66 outside the beltway SINGLE PERSON as of September 30, 2019.

The notice the DMV sent me had a link that sent me to IRS 30D provisions for alternative fuel cars that would allow me to continue riding alone in the HOV2 lanes until 2025.

Anyway, I just got a quote from a MD dealer for 2020 Prius Prime XLE (Mag Blue - black interior) for $27,040 (MSRP $30,689 - Price difference -$2,142 = $$28,547 internet price). Then he took off another $1500 for the rebate. He also sent me the car sticker so I could see what I was getting. The only thing extra was $259 for all weather mats.

Is this a good price? I think it is and am ready to buy it tomorrow but wanted your sage advice.

    Thanks for your help!

PS: I'm selling my 2017 Prius 68K miles - anyone interested?

Toyota website lists them as optional accessory but all Prius Primes I've seen come with mats from the factory in Japan. Even if they didn't, I would immediately get them because I can't imagine driving a car around without mats so that I ruin the upholstery for good, greatly depreciating the expensive investment.

That's way below (~ $400) the invoice minus the rebate; so, it's as good as it gets. However, as others mentioned it may not be the price you will actually be offered when you step into the dealership, as they may try to make you buy expensive add-ons or else not sell the car. They need to make money and when the price is below the invoice, there is something suspicious. Good luck!

Optional or not, have them included in the quoted price, before negotiations, and go from there.

The $30,689 MSRP on the window sticker includes the five-piece carpet mats, and as I said this is the same MSRP for all Prius Prime XLE's I've seen, with the exception of premium colors. I don't know why she mentioned them as "extra" -- perhaps she was looking at the build-and-price tool on the Toyota website, which shows them as accessory, even though in reality they all come equipped with them from the factory. The Toyota website shows the delivery fee incorrectly as well -- the actual fee on the window sticker is $930 as opposed to $955 on the website.

    Hey thanks!

The window sticker pdf he sent me listed under Optional Equipment
    50 State Emissions $0.00
All Weather Floor Liners/Cargo Liner $259.00

MD dealer said there is a $299 processing fee additional plus of course VA sales tax and tags. I'm just going to transfer my current Special Fuel plates.

If you don't mind, I'd be interested in the name of the dealer and your totals out the door (minus VA tax and tags). I'm hoping to fly to MD or MA or somewhere else in the northeast to buy in December.
I hope everything goes perfectly for you!

    hello,
is 25500 for LE and 27600 for xle good price in the northwest? these prices are from Oregon. this is for the 2020 prius prime.
The other charges are the state tax+title&registration.
I agree with the post that said about being careful about the price the dealership quotes over phone and email. I was just click and baited yesterday. they quoted me 24650 for the LE and when I went there they said not less than 25500. i enquired multiple times to confirm the amount we agreed on and have email confirming that from the Truecar quote. i walked out of the transaction.
If the price is too good to be true, its probably not true.

That's exactly how it is! The dealer needs to make money. Currently there is only one rebate -- $1500 -- as far as I know. Look at the invoice price on TrueCar. On top of that, don't forget to add about $200 for the five-piece carpet mats, which is factory-installed on all cars. The invoice price plus the mats is what the car is costing the dealer. In fact they probably also already paid for add-ons that can't be deleted. Subtract the rebate from that and that's the minimum price the dealer can sell the car to you and still break even.

At the end I was able to get the car at $480 above the invoice (minus the $1500 rebate) with the three add-ons (door-edge-and-handle protector, exterior/interior wax job, and GPS tracking) installed. I think that was a great deal, considering that they were asking $2200 for the add-ons. In addition I am waiting for my $4502 federal + $1500 California tax credit next year.

So, in summary, if the Internet/phone price is below the invoice minus rebates/incentives, expect to get a sticker shock with multiple add-ons that were not previously mentioned when you walk into the dealership.

thanks everyone. i have a 10 am appointment this morning at Toyota Eastern Shore. i will share my experience whether i buy the car or not. i hope they won't pull any shenanigans with me as i'm not bringing my "husband" with me. plus it's a 2 - 3 hour drive for me and it would suck if i didn't have a simple in and out experience with absolutely no add ons.

anyway those are my hopes and i will share what happened later. full details coming. stay tuned!

ok so the deal is done. no upselling. in and out in under 3 hours.

Koons Toyota Eastern Shore. ask for chris willis. if you mention my name they will send me a $25 gift card.

traded in my 1017 prius two 68k for 13k. could have sold it on my own for more I know but i didn't want to have to deal with it.

the manager showed me the invoice and yeah they were losing money on the deal with the 27,040 price they gave me for the xle but he also told me they make an embedded $669 already. so really they are not ever losing money but he told me not making the kind of margins they make off the regular prius ie 2-3k. or the big sellers like the trucks and suvs. but it was all part of the game.

so overall i had a great experience. chris and the gang were very low key and courteous. they even fed me lunch as i said i was getting hangry waiting for the finance lady to get the paperwork together. anyway remember the good old dot matrix printers that churned out mountains of papers for signature? well they now have a embedded touch screen huge monitor in the desk or rather as the desk top. i would sign and then she'd flip the screen over so she could sign. it took ten minutes! no papers to take home. it was all downloaded onto a usb to take home. super cool.

the only down side is even with my credit score at 851 Toyota financial gave me a 72 month 5.39% loan. of course i will re fi on Monday.

a pleasant surprise was the cargo tonneau cover was the old rollup better kind than the lousy light weight cover you had to string from hooks. i hated them on the Two. i thought only the limited got the decent one but when i saw it i was very happy.

um fyi don't shop the annapolis dealer they quoted me more money for the le than i paid for the xle. the sales manager replied to me but didn't bother to ask me to come visit or anything like that. really unfriendly.

thank you for all your help. i love love love the car and am very very happy.

Thanks a ton, Lorraine! Koons is one of the dealerships I've been watching online. I'm so glad to know that they are easy to deal with - especially since I'll be flying in. I'm not planning to buy for a few more months, but if I wind up there, I'll be sure to mention you. :)

    Congrats! Enjoy the car.

On note, though, this whole invoice thing
is b.s. I mean, sure, you it as an indicator just like MSRP, but don't fall for 'this is what it cost us' and 'we're losing money here' speeches.
