    Mind machine that is a very curvy route either on 70 or 68 and 79 to 70 east to columbus . I had to go to Clarksville to get my plugin since columbus oh didn't have any.

    You guys are saving $0.00155555 by not preconditioning.
    And these efficiency numbers are saving you pennies.
    And charging losses vary seasonally thanks to the advanced TMS the Volt has. It is not a fixed number.
    Do you really need to be a hypermiling AH just to save a few pennies?

    Why not just enjoy your new car and use all the features it offers?

    Why not floor it and see what happens! Have you ever done that? No one knows you are doing it. They only know your car is fast!

    It sounds like you're obsessing over numbers that involve pennies.
    But if that is what you enjoy about the car ,,, enjoy !!!
    Please,,, just don't make a bad name out of it by clogging up traffic to save Half O' Cent.

    Sorry, I feel an aversion to Cheap this morning and have to vent.......

    Bill, they ARE enjoying the car.
    Many people actually enjoy getting more efficiency out of a piece of machinery.

    And other people aren't looking to save a few pennies.
    I don't care if I am saving a few cents. I care that I am not sending money to people that are going to spend it in buying explosives to kill/maim our soldiers.
    I also care that I am not spewing noxious fumes in our local streets, adding to asthma and other respiratory issues for some, and medical costs for all.

    I'm actually not trying to save pennies or even get better numbers, really just driving it !

    While driving the PiP that way in winter was kind of a game - trying to make it to the train and back on no gas...
    I don't precondition now because as I said -its really nice out this time of year. Its been 60 in the morning and usually not higher than mid 70's later. There's nothing to precondition for ! Some people are too soft in my opinion - needing heat when its in the 50's and AC soon as it gets above 70...

    I've been getting good numbers because my daily driving doesn't require any gas.

    I don't feel so. It may be for you, which is fine.

    Personal responsibility for one's own actions is not seen as important by some.
    Many people just don't know what the consequences are.

    I feel it is my duty (to the next generation, my fellow citizens, our soldiers) to not contribute to issues such as those I mentioned.

    Hey Bill,

    Don't worry -- I played around with preconditioning on the few 90+ degree days we've had this summer. I just found that for my situation it's more advantageous to use the "roll down all windows" trick to cool the car quicker.

    I'm sure I'll be preconditioning in the winter as I'm the fool who didn't get heated seats! I put some in on my Gen 2 Prius, perhaps I'll install some aftermarket ones on this car as it gets a little older too. I hate the thought of tearing apart a car when its so new.

    I've been playing around a bit with efficiency because I'm sure to use SOME gas this fall/winter on my typical return commute. I'm just trying to learn how to forestall that a little bit. Not really interested in saving fuel from a cost standpoint, just like the thought of driving on electric, even better when it's free electric from work (since I don't take advantage of the free coffee)!

    That's the thing, I did a bunch of jackrabbit starts, driving in Low-Sport, quite a few stoplight takeoffs, and a lot of spirited driving in the twisties this report period. I'm really surprised to beat EPA MPGe with my driving style.
