And this is my chocolate lab, Byron. isnt he adorable?

BYron is always on dog heaven when he is in the Prius he likes to stretch across the front floor board since there is a gap between the drivers seat and the passenger seat.

:) Thanks IAQ - Princess thanks you and I thank you for the complement on her gorgeous green eyes. She uses them to control me - the "Big Green Eye" treatment usually gets what she 'commands.' Being royalty, we are her 'staff' and strive to please her in every way - *SIGH*

Princess was published in the Dallas Morning News with "proof" that she uses her own Palm Pilot :D

Was it a take on the Geico caveman commercials?

Palm: "Our DST upgrade is so simple, even a cat can do it" - I can see thousands of Palms winding up in litter boxes...

I am a big animal lover, but do not currently have a cat or dog... only goldfish, and a few big ones at that at the ripe old age of 6.5 years! Therefore, I voted 'other pets'. ;)

I grew up with a cat while my wife always had dogs. Once we began living together, we naturally got a dog. <_< Sara was a beautiful boxer/sheepdog mix (yeah, sounds bizarre, I know!) who was such a sweetheart, but the boxer in her was very demanding, as most boxers are.

With both of us working increasingly long hours and the puppy couped up in a crate the better part of a day, we realized we could not keep up with giving her the exercise and attention she needed and it simply was unfair to her; so we made the most difficult decision of our lives (up to that point) and decided to give her up at the age of a year and a half to someone who had more time to devote to her.

That was almost 5 years ago, and we still miss her terribly... :(

We plan to get a cat or dog once again one day, but only when our lives are more suited for the demands. For now, goldfish are pretty self-sufficient. ;)

Cast my lot with the bird lovers. Don't have one right now, but have had several talking budgies. My favorite - "Hercules", who could say his name & tell you how pretty he was.

I've been told that I have a great yard for dogs (fenced & large), but my only canine came from Build-A-Bear. Pete's not much of a watch dog, but he doesn't need to be fed or walked either.

I can affirm this assertation...I have met all the critters aforementioned...well...mostly--WE scared away one of the cats, too!

And, to your left, please greet his royal toypoodliness (who is right now pretending to be a cat and lying in a sunny patch on the deck...). He turned ELEVEN 2 weeks and one day ago. Please send only stuffed toy rabbits for him to hunt and kill and no food as tribute as he has a delicate digestive system.

    Thank you.

(Oh yes--we also have a Norwegian Blue Parrot called Ex.)

I have the opposite problem with my dogs - they want to go everywhere in the car.

However, my dog Dingo will not set foot in either bathroom in our house and will not go into the kitchen at my dad's house. I think she has a phobia about the linoleum floor.

There are some good books on dealing with shy or sensitive dogs. Search on Amazon. One of the main points that I picked up is that you should not make it a big deal - dogs pick up on non-verbal cues better than people do, so if you aren't calm, they may pick up on this and think that something is wrong or bad. You shouldn't try to confort them when they are afraid of something - this will tend to reinforce the behavior - just ignore the whining or other fearful behavior and reward them when they behave the way you want.
