I've not been tracking this thread carefully. Was there ever a demographic conclusion to the question; i.e. retired, professional, blue/white collar, etc.?

My quick scan suggests that the Prius crowd tends to be qhite collar professional, technologically savvy, and well educated, or retired from same. Quite different from the Tacoma crowd where I hang out from time to time b/c I also own a Tacoma. THAT crowd is younger, less well educated (and more right wing Republican).

And by the way, I am a former professor of environmental science now working in the private sector on energy and environmental issues.

I am a Aircraft Mechanic if you want to make it sound better you could say Aviation Maintenance Technician. Aviation maintenance is my full time job I am also a Citizen Soldier and Genteman Farmer part time.

I also own both a Prius and a Tacoma. I am blue collar HS educated some collage no degree though. The Tacoma is my wife's vehicle I drive the Prius exclusively. I am a Registred Republican but I vote for people and principals not political parties.

Salesman for a nationwide trucking company for the past 6 years. 15 years ago, I broke into this business as an over-educated, under-achieving, appropriately-caffeinated rookie truck driver, mostly because I needed a change & I was was enamored with the romance of the road. As opposed to on it, I later discovered.

(These things do happen. One of my fellow drivers was a board-certified forensic pathologist who worked for Dr. Michael Baden in NYC back in the day. I think everyone should make a point of befriending a forensic pathologist from NYC, because the one I had was absolutely hilarious. I still laugh when I remember his stories... and being a medic, I know they were true.)

So after about a year, the owners determined I was safer behind a desk than behind the wheel. Not because I ever ran into anybody, but because I sucked in reverse. Backing a big-rig out of the shop before the door was all the way up cost me $400. That was the beginning of the end of my career as a driver, so I was eventually promoted to senior management.

Before that, I was a medic for many years (air & land), and I sometimes moonlighted as an ER tech; then, needing a break from the acuity of emergency field medicine, I became a traveling kidney dialysis technicician -- & eventually I got to work with survivors of traumatic brain injury. That was a blast. Given all the brain cells I killed back in the day (the 80s were unkind), I seemed to fit right in.

Sales seemed like a natural choice after that.

Electrical Engineer/Computer Engineer, currently designing a CPU.

I see I have some company here - though given the wide expanse that Electrical Engineering covers (everything from plasmas to power to computers and more), we quite possibly wouldn't be able to understand a single thing the others said... :D
