Damn, these people are just wanting to get answers to the questions we have all had at some point, many of which I have, in fact. This whole website is exactly for that purpose. We all HAVE DIFFERENT STILES, and DiFeReNt WaYs Of WoRdInG ThInGs. who cares?

I though this was about all of us helping all of us.

What do I know, thought, right? I only have 1400 miles on mine. This car is hugely different in a ton of aspects than any other car and takes time to learn. Who cares is somebody is freaking out over something thats freaky to them. Just because it's not freaky to others doesn't mean it isn't to them, but whatever.

I might have to think twice before posting a question for fear of the abuse. Ducking down now.

Seriously though .... anyone want to buy 4 new goodyear incrapities?

I read a lot of stories about the Prius and wind. The Prius is a small light weight car, it’s not an SUV. If you drove an SUV or some other larger car don’t expect the Prius to drive the same as a larger car.
I drove a 1983 Sentra back in high school and the Prius is far better and safer than that the 83 Nissan Sentra. I had three auto crashes, all involved rain/wet roads with the Nissan. That car had small tiers and was underpowered and has none of the safety features the Prius has.
Lets keep the Prius in prospective it's not a SUV and yes the wind will move it around, just like all small light weight cars.

Would it be a good or bad thing, when in high winds, to open both back windows?

This thread has started to go a bit sideways (virtual crosswinds, anyone?).

In all seriousness, I would have the alignment checked/set to spec before proceeding with any "fix". If you don't have the car set up as it was originally designed to be, you may be spending needless $ on fixes that could have been avoided just by having the car set to original specification.

    Just bo
Exactly the same problem here.. Just bought a 2012 prius. First thing I did was to send for alignment and brake checks.
Driving in the wind is extremely unstable. Almost to the point it's dangerous to drive. I had no idea it was going to be that bad. It's really concerning and I'd avoid to drive during windy days if possible but of course it is not most of the time. Anyone with suggestions on how to improve its stability on windy days?.

This thread has been dead for over 10 years and is about the Gen 2.

You want to start a new thread in the Gen 3 forums where experts on that Prius can help.

One thing to remember is that speed limits are set for ideal conditions. If the car doesn't feel stable just slow down and stay to the right. If other people in bigger or heavier cars want to pass, let them.

Today was a perfect example. We were up in Ridgecrest visiting family. Sustained winds of 30-40 mph with gusts of 50-60. The Prius wasn't handling the crosswinds on highway 395 well at the posted limit of 65 mph. At 55-58 mph it was perfectly fine. It was no problem using turnouts to let people by when in a no passing zone. We also stayed to the right when passing lanes were available.

It took us an extra 15 minutes to get home on a 125 mile drive but it was easy and stress-free. The key is to be patient and use some common sense to stay safe.

It is tricky, as when it was the gen 2, it was pretty much the only Prius and they did not make it clear. Now, with four generations the forum spends more time making sure which one we are knowledgeable about.

I have only owned a Gen 2 and a v, so I need to be sure I explain when I know something and when I just think something.
