You know 'troll-dom' cuts both ways. Use them as a foil, a way to calmly, factually post the facts and data. We don't have an obligation to 'change their mind' . . . far from it. What we can do is simply state the facts and data and move on.

Now the 'troll' hypothesis is somewhat interesting. For example, three weeks ago, the OP was posting about having to pay "$221" per month . . . based upon some web quotes. In contrast:

Hybrid Travelers - Hybrid Auto Insurance Discounts

Without going down the rat hole of trollish behavior, it is simple enough to exploit their 'syndrome' as another opportunity to bring facts and data to the table.

Personally, I don't care about the OP but he did provide an opportunity to brag about the discount Prius owners get in addition to fuel savings. Given his lack of previous credibility, he is unqualified to report on 'handling' or any other aspect of Prius performance. Facts and data are not the trolls' friend.

Yes, we need to continually combat your sickness of thinking there must be more to every little glitches in the Prius that members post here than simply user errors and trolling in this way :D

May I suggest one more way to counter "troll-dom". since the troll's main purpose is to make fun of us, why not make fun of him right back. He trolls us, we simply troll him back! He'll not be getting so much fun if he know that we're not falling for it and he's not getting to our nerves.

Apart from learning more from esteemed members such as yourself who calmly post facts about the issues, it can also be entertainment, free of charge. (Well, you paid for high-speed-internet):D

I wonder how come you didn't notice the short comings when you test-drove the vehicle?
In my case it was different -- I had a 1991 Nissan Maxima before I had this car and I just enjoyed long drives in the Prius. In spite of the limited adjustment options of the seat I didn't feel the miles I drove in it.
The plastic factor is there and I had some rattling issue to deal with too (but got it fixed).

Wow. After reading/slogging though this major thread and all the vitriol spewing forth, I've come to the conclusion that Pruis owners are a feisty and fiercely loyal lot. This is evidenced by Consumer Reports ratings, which show the Prius has an Owner Satisfaction (meaning they would buy the same car again) rating of Excellent (full red circle). So, despite a thin plastic, easily scratched interior and exterior, intrusive road noise, lousy radio and other "negatives" (as have all been documented on this Forum), the Prius MPG trumps all. Very impressive.

I can't wait to test drive one in November, armed with the knowledge I've gleaned here. I hope that I, too, am able to overlook/minimize the negatives and balance them against the positives, of which there are many besides MPG. I'll also be test driving other cars, and I'm looking forward to it.

I'll report back in a couple of months.

Seemed like you've been lurking around in this forum for months very interested in the Prius and yet you don't even go to a dealership to just kick the tires?

If you base your buying decision on reading this thread, or even let this trolling thread affect your buying dicision, that will be a shame:(

I'd suggest you see/feel/test drive it for yourself multiple times and you don't really have to wait for November to test drive one (whatever reason you have to buy at that time and not now, it's none of my business), the more experience you have the more confident you'll be with your final decision.

I test drove many times with many different dealerships over a period of a whole month before I made the plunge. Even if you're decided to buy a Prius, you'd still have to make decisions on which model/options/accessories/colour, not to mention which dealership gives you best buying and maintenance experiences etc, etc.

Don't wait for the last minute. You're doing the right thing to research it thoroughly like joining this forum but it doesn't replace the real experiences of really test drive one. You don't want to have huge buyer's remorse like the op of this thread because you don't test drive it enough.

My reason for waiting until November is my lease is up in December, and I was giving myself a month to test drive, negotiate and buy. Plus, the 2011's will be out by then, hopefully, and I'd rather buy a new model year car rather than one that has depreciated for a year.

You have given me food for thought, though. I have been researching and "lurking" for months now, and my head is spinning! I suppose I should get out there soon and start "kicking the tires," as you say.

    Thanks.

I don't think driving 80 mph in any car is safe,
unless you are the only car the road---then go ahead,
    knock yourself out.:)

I've got over 2,000 miles now on mine, and have no major
complaints. I've driven it 65-75 and it felt fine to me, although
I rarely feel the need to go over 65.

The main reason I got this car is for the gas mileage,
and I was determined to pay less $ to the oil companies,
especially after the horrible oil disaster.

I hope we can all do our part to stop destroying our beautiful planet.

That is the most important thing to me.
When they make a practical, workable, inexpensive electric car
I will do that. I would love not to ever have to buy gas again.:cheer2:

    Still loving my Prius,
    June

It depends on where you live, but up and down the east coast there are many roads where 80 is the flow of traffic, plenty of points along I-95 where if you are going 65, you're an obstacle...

If you start test driving the Prius now it's still warm enough to call summer. By November it'll be more chilly you'll be able to experience it in a different temperature. That's a good way to see how it feels in different seasons I guess.

BTW, when you test drive the Prius don't be just awed by its fuel efficiency and forget to evaluate all the other aspects/details of the car. You don't want to discover something you hate to death AFTER you bought one (like the op).

The fact that the Prius have very high owner satisfaction % doesn't mean it's a perfect car. In fact I myself can think of a few things about the Prius that can be improved, such as the lack of cup holders in the back in case 3 people are sitting back there.

Different features/characteristics appeal to different people. For example, my son absolutely refuses to drive the Prius claiming it makes him sea sick. But yet he's ok to ride as a passenger while I drive. I guess the Prius' suspension is a little more "floaty" than other cars, especially comparing with that of my son's Pontiac G5. Even though that was bought @ bargain basement price, it has quite a good ride.

Ah, maybe that's what the op of this thread meant to say: the Prius does feel more swaying around a little more than usual, and that's why my son feels sea sick in it. But a softer suspension DOES NOT warrant the op's claim that it is an "absolutely unsafe" car that vibrates out of control.

If he doesn't like a certain characteristic of the car he shouldn't buy it. If he made a mistake he should be man enough to suck it up & do whatever action to resolve the problem such as selling it. That's no reason to bash it with unwarranted claims in front of other who adore the car.

His problem is that he didn't test drive it enough and probably didn't evaluate all the "feelings" while he was test driving it. Of course his chat-room antics is a whole different story. He may not have the intension of being a troll initially, but he posted & acted like a troll, and a troll he really is.

As I noted some time back, Justaguy's earlier posts said he was bringing home a IV and now it's a II?

But, people have been debating cars for a bit over a century now. Along with politics and religion. You can't win. Why? Because everyone is different. Some people love silver cars. Some don't. Some people love cars with soft suspensions and some don't. Some people love to go 80 mph some don't. Some people have to get from 0-60 in less than five seconds and some don't. Some people love gas-guzzlers because they work for Exxon Mobil, and some don't. Some people like big sportscars and some don't. Some people like really small sportscars and some don't. Some people love saving gas enough to overlook the trade-offs of a Prius and some don't.

Maybe that's why there are Prius', Minis, BMW 7 series, Cadillac DTS's, Corvettes, and Audis...

I've already explained my reasoning to picking the II instead of the IV. If you actually paid attention. The seniors in this forum have trouble reading a whole post. You read that I wanted a IV and picked a II, but refuse to read what my reasoning was. Since i'm understanding, I will repeat it once more.

It had something to do with the fact that I II III IV V VI models of prius have the exact same drivetrains. Now before Michael vick's troll dog points fingers "ayyyy boy theres only 4 different models, you and yo dogg aint own a prius" , settle down there kid, i know, I am just letting you throw your little girly tantrum for the hell of it...

If they had different engine sizes like other car brands have for their different models, e.g audi a6 has 3.2 and 4.2 engine sizes, BMW 3 series has 328i 335i with different drivetrains. COROLLA has LE (1.8L) XLE S XRS (2.4 L) The IV would have been more appealing to me. Yes I understand that III IV V has more options which may have improved the interior with less plasticy junk and $10k more (no thanks), but I am more into performance, as I elaborated with Mr. ES 5000 Grandpappy Steveo earlier. :D

Dude, get a decent high performance car if that's what you want. Like the Tesla roadster, if you want low emissions.
