Drain plug magnets are a good idea but about the only engine item they really protect (providing the oil filter is doing it's job) is the oil pump as this is between the oil sump and filter, it therefore pumps unfiltered oil and this can usually be seen in a dismantled pump as scoring witch reduces oil pressure and flow rates.

The same M12x1.25 as in all late Toyotas.

I have a Sherline micro lathe. I just buy some neodymiun rare earth rod magnets that are 1/8x1/2, drill 1.8 inch hole 5/16 inch deep into the center of the OEM, and fit them in with green engine sleeve retaning Loctite.

It goes in as the OEM drain plug.

For those, who doubt the effectiveness of a magnetic drain plug in a aluminum engine, all 4 cylinder Prius engines use an iron cylinder liner.

Unfortunately, the price is now $14.99. Just a little increase :-/
