Prius Lowering Options

I looked up the specs on those Trident wheels and you may be in for one heck of a mpg drop. At the very least the car is going to feel very sluggish. The wheels weight 28.65lbs each!

The offset is 36mm. The OEM 17" Prius wheel offset is 50mm. The 36mm offset may cause rubbing issues AND will likely cause aerodynamic drag. It will likely look awesome so if you don't car about gas mileage then don't sweat it.

 

Most of the roads I drive on are a series of bad patches sticking up nearly half an inch and potholes (bottomless)! Can't even boost the tires past 38 lbs before it feels like it'll shake itself apart! Can't imagine what lowering it would do!

 

Is $175 apiece to install coilovers a good/"fair market" price? Honestly, I was a bit taken back when they told me that was the price to install coilovers at the tire/wheel place today. That's a big chunk of change to add on top of the cost of everything else!

 

Coil overs shouldn't really take much more time to install than regular springs and struts unless you are making the shop adjust them for you over and over until it sits the way you like.

Fair price in my area is about $200-$300 for the entire install. Maybe $350-$400 if you are in an affluent area or using a high end shop.

I was feeling a rip-off when he answered my question about price for installing them. I should have dressed shabbier! lol

 

$700 is a good price for labor in your area?

 

In my area you can expect around $500-600 for coilover install including alignment.

 

I thought it was $175 to do the whole install initially. Now that I read his post again that's way too expensive. I paid $150 for my install.

Yeah, I could do with paying the $150 TOTAL; but the $175 EACH!?!?!?!? That's just craziness.

 

Most places just charge the shop hours from the book, not how much time it really takes them to do the work. Just do the job yourself since you don't even need to have a spring compressor to install coilovers.

 

For the Tanabe Sustec Pro's you do need a spring compressor since it retains the use of the stock Tophat

Also by the book it's a 2 hour install. However most who have installed or seen an install of these knows it takes quite a bit longer if your really careful.

 

It shouldn't cost you more than $200-300 total for the spring install. I got mine for $150 but that's cause I searched hard on Yelp.
