Prius life after 100000 mileage

I had three or was it four recalls. one to check the hood seal and the others to reprogram the computer.

the only other work is oil changes every 5K, tire rotation and one wheel alignment.

oh, and i washed it once.

 

Prius life span is looking good. With 59,000 miles on my 2004 (bought 3/1/2004), I have had very little trouble, and I'm still on the original tires. I did have a wheel bearing replaced for free at 36K or so, but other that that, I just change my oil every 5K, or sometimes bring it to my dealer for oil/filter. The 60K service will cost $270 or so.

I drive 98% highway miles, so that does slow the wear and tear, but keeps MPG low at 48 or so. Go JeffG! Keep on drivin'.

 

Andrew Grant's Vancouver cabbie story is great. He says he saves ~ Cd $1000 *a month* on fuel. And of course additional savings from lowered maintenance, and as the price of petrol increases.

Makes we wonder what the holdouts are waiting for.

 

Also, I have found several companies that as long as you buy it before your current warranty is up (at least one month or 5,000 miles prior) that will sell you an extended warranty for about $1500 for an additional 100,000 miles or 10 years on a 2004 Prius (price will fluctuate a bit based on how many miles you have and exactlly when you buy it, you can also get it substantially cheaper (about 1/2 price) if you do not live in California). This is for the wrranty that covers everything but maintenance and has no deductible and is valid at almost every repair shop, including dealers.

Additional 100k miles? If I have the Toyota extended warranty for 100k miles. 5k miles before my car hits 100k, I can buy that warranty for up to 200k miles? Have you confirm this with Toyota or dealers that they will accept this? If so, can you provide the websites to those companies?

It's a third party company and yes they will warranty it up to 200,000 miles and beyond, of course the higher you go, the more expensive the warranty is, just do a google search for extended car warranties and your state, example California Exteneded Car Warranty

No need to check with the dealers, as it's not thier warranty, it's another company all together.

Something like that, I can't find th exact site that I found at the moment, but there are much better ones out there for states other than California, not sure why that is exactly.

Just make sure that you get a reputable company, there are many ways to check, but the best is check them out with the Better Businees Beureu before ordering any of them.

Well, you're not being accurate when you extend your converted figure to more significant digits than your original figure. You're implying a level of precision which you don't have. You should just say 227535 miles.

How do you know if dealer will accept this then (as you said in your pervious post)? If I want to repair hybrid related components, I am pretty sure regular shops won't do it. They were shock even when I bring it for an oil change.

My 2001 Prius has about 90k on it.

It still drives like a Caddy.

The fluid sensor is a little slow. It shows the 'low fluid' light for about 1 minute when the car starts for the first time in a day.

Other than that, it drives like it's brand new.

Of course, the 2001 Prius is quite a bit different from the newer ones.

You caught my attention with that, gippah. Do you mean the "red oil can" indicator light under the high-beam blue light and the left turn signal? I don't want that light to stay lit for a minute. What is your engine oil level and how long has it been since the oil and filter were changed?

That light will only be on when the oil pressure sensor is reporting a "digital zero", which should only happen below about 1 to 3 psi oil pressure. Based on what you have written, I am hoping that the sensor is faulty.

 

The 2001 Prius has a "Red" light for too much fluid pressure, and a "Blue" light for too little.

The levels are normal.

It's not the oil can light, it's the fluid pressure light.

On the right hand side of the upper display, there is a blue light for low engine coolant temperature, and a red light for too high in the same parameter. If this is what you are reporting, then it indicates cold engine coolant at startup. Perfectly fine, and should have always behaved that way.

I hope this is what you see. Had me worried there last night.

Been driving too much to have time for a reply. I used to drive about 900 miles a week, but got a better job. Now I drive about 200 miles a week. 200K is a long way off now and that's a good thing.
