The reason it's not in Prius in the US is that may detract from Lexus sales, don't you think. I'd bet lunch it can be put in the US,be surprised if there were much to it actually, but maybe a new dash ?$$
i guess there are a few logical starting points for a potential mod - we need part numbers and electrical diagrams. Anyone have a maint manual or schematics for the euro or japan prius?
Good luck if you want to take out the dashboard, make a big hole in it and then install the HUD projector.
It may not be that big of a thing to do, I wouldn't be surprised if the projector isn't already there as the non HUD Prius image is projected, just not on the dash. Never having seen a HUD Prius, I could be completely wrong though
Not a chance. The non HUD display is not really projected, but simply reflected. The HUD uses a whole different system. Tom
Found this post with interior view. You can see the projector (I presume) on the left of the dash hump. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...-prius-heads-up-display-hud-2.html#post848585
Oh well worth a shot, still maybe it would be a "plug in mod" + of course a hole in the dash One can only hope
Anyone had any luck sourcing part numbers, etc for this? Hopefully, it's just a "plug in to the unused harness" type mod...
Cutting a hole might not be the most difficult thing to do. It's proably the wiring. You also need this HUD control switches next clock adjuster switch. For that, you also need the trim panel. I was going to browse the electronic parts catalogue at Toyota Service Information but I need a VIN or license plate number of the actual car that was equipped with the HUD from the factory. If I enter my VIN, it only shows parts applicapable to my US model. But odly enough, it did show the switch with parts number and when searched it on parts.com, it showed up as available. 8497547050 SWITCH TRIP $69.53 Can a european member with prius equipped with HUD share the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)? with this I should be able to pull parts number of everything needed to retrofit this. If it's possible at all. It cost about $5 to use toyota europe tech info site for about an hour. Database contains all US models as well.
You'll rarely find an "unused harness" in a vehicle where an entire region doesn't receive a feature. Even between Prius IV and V, we're missing some wiring for height sensor (LED headlight) and fogs.
True, but wiring and harnesses are cheap to make; as long as the programming is in the controller for the MID/digital dash/etc, then we should be able to make the wiring ourselves...
has anyone successfully connected the HUD to the Navi? I've an aftermarket head unit that supports CANBUS, but not sure how it'd connect to the HUD to show navigational direction. p.s. I've changed the trip switch to have the NAVI switch too.
