That letter is useful while I prepare for my appointment with the dealer
Is there a copy of the full extended warranty for the IPM I can read over?
    Thanks

Search this site for the term ZE3 until you find a post that attached it. Or grab it from NHTSA under Manufacturer Communications.

I just got the Marlinsmobile back from the dealership after this repair. Between PriusChat and the settlement postcard I was prepared for what might happen, but it was pretty scary suddenly going from 60 mph to 25 on the highway! Luckily no one was following close behind Lots of lights on the dashboard + hybrid system warning, and codes P0A7A + P0A94. 2013 with ~150K miles, both recall services completed previously.

I was prepared for a fight, but the service advisor came back right away and said it's covered under the extended warranty, without me even asking. It did take a day or so to get some of the parts in.

I recommend checking the official court records or contacting the law firm handling the Prius Gen 3 and V inverter class action settlement for detailed information on the legal resolution.

Reflecting on the past and curious if anyone else remembers discussions about a defect in earlier PC posts. Back in the day, I came across information about potential issues with our 2010 hybrid Lexus SUV, though interestingly, the Prius hatchback seemed unaffected. Nostalgic for those old threads and wondering if anyone can share more insights or experiences.

Was the check envelope labeled clearly about the inverter settlement? I applied as well. My inverter was the first thing to go years ago. Sudden with no prior symptoms.

I got my settlement check I actually had two Gen3 prius but only got one check one had the inverter fixe/replaced very very early the other got the recall/updated software replacement only I immediately noticed the difference and the monitoring app confirned that it was throttled down

I think the check is legit my only question is it taxable? Do I need to include it both federal and state income tax ?

I would not think it is taxable. You already paid taxes on the money you spent to do the initial repair, and this is paying you back for that. If you paid taxes on this check you would be taxed coming and going.

Whatever tax you paid on the initial repair would have been a sales tax. If the check adds to your income, it probably is subject to income tax. Those two types of tax both exist in most places.

I got my check a couple weeks ago for my long gone 2012 V wagon. Way back when my inverter went out, Toyota paid for the repair and a rental car, so I wasn't out any money.

As to whether it's taxable: I consulted the lawfirm of Google, Google & Google Esq., and here's what their AI paralegal said.
"Oftentimes, the nature of a class action suit determines if the lawsuit settlement can be taxable. Lawsuit settlement proceeds are taxable in situations where the lawsuit is not involved with physical harm, discrimination of any kind, loss of income, or devaluation of an investment."

So according to that, the payment may be taxable, but it would depend on what the payment is actually for. Is it supposed to be
    A) a reimbursement for expenses
    B) "a little something for your trouble."

If it's the former that's not taxable because you paid the initial expense with post-tax dollars, so you are reimbursed with post-tax dollars. (Just like if your company reimburses you for travel expenses.) But if it's the latter, the payment is taxable.

I'll add that I've worked small freelance gigs thoughout my career where my dayrate is $500 or less -- and I've paid freelancers from time to time. If the payment is less than $600, the "employer" is not required to file a 1099 which means for tax purposes there's no record of the payment having been made. (bold text for emphasis)

Do with that information what you will. My plan is to wait and see if I get anything at the end of the year documenting the payment.
