Apparently, automatic, unless you opt out of the settlement.

Nearly all class action settlements are written in exact legalese that dates back to English common law even prior to the Norman Invasion of September 1066.

Every settlement provides any member of a class action to opt out. With certain freedoms provided under the Constitution, there is the right to petition under the 6th Amendment. With that right, there is the rignt not to petition. Consequently, that includes the right to act in contrary to one's interest aka: the right to be stupid.

opt out is for people who reserve the right to sue for a better deal. it's most common in cash settlements

Some settlements will include if you opt in, you give up the right to sue.

Generally the way it works. Else the respondent wouldn't have much to gain by settling.

Any idea bout this $5000 ?

" Each named plaintiff who sued will receive $5,000 and the attorneys will receive $19.6 million. "

A final fairness hearing is scheduled for January 13, 2023, but owners can learn more at www.ToyotaPriusInverterSettlement.com.

My idea about the $5000 is that it's an amount that will go to each of the original named plaintiffs who appeared on the suit when it was brought.

Interesting if you are one of those people, less interesting if you're not.

So according to that. Other owners will receive the repair expenses? And also the $250 if something is left after paying all repair claims.

Last week I emailed that office that's handling the claim, they confirmed I'm in that group. Sent me papers to fill up for a reimbursement claim.

Realistically the new settlement gives you towing and a rental car reimbursement if you already paid for those items. For me the towing was part of my usaa insurance but the car rental might be worth a couple hundred.

My 2010 just stopped running and a local Prius speciaty shop said it may be the inverter
I then talked to the dealer and he said only the IPM module which is part of the inverter is covered in extended warranty.
    Here are some questions
Why does the dealer say IPM only?
    What does an IPM do?
How do I qualify for this benefit?
Can I really get tow and rental car expenses reimbursed if I qualify?
Do I really need the card to get benefits?

The IPM is the part that burns out. You have to have specified trouble codes and then it is a free repair at the dealer. No tow and rental expenses although in Jan those will be covered as well. But the repair is a one day fix if they have the part.

Your questions about what an IPM is and what gets replaced have answers in this post here. What gets replaced depends on what trouble codes are present and what damage is found. Sometimes it's only the IPM. Anybody who says it's always only the IPM is blowing smoke.

The existing warranty extension (before anything to do with this legal settlement) already covers the repair to 15 years and unlimited miles. By my count, your 2010 isn't 15 years old yet, so you already qualify under the existing terms, and you can have the repair taken care of before this settlement even becomes a thing next February.

They replace the entire inverter or just the IPM module ?
Do I need to tell the Attorneys I may have this problem?
Do I have to go to the dealer if I am covered or can I go to a qualified shop that only do the Prius?
    Thanks

Just go to the dealer. Don't overthink this if you have the codes. 1D427998-FBD1-4E1F-A52D-AF5CB8C401D3.jpeg

I guess free is not good enough. Toyota pays for this, not the dealer. Ask an independent mechanic you trust to read the codes with a hybrid compatible scanner. Do not clear the codes or pull the 12v power.

Good Idea on the independent mechanic
What do you mean do not clear the codes or pull the power? Thanks
