I don't recall exactly how much fuel I put in, but I believe it was 9.5 gallons. I hand calculated the MPG at 58. It was 6 months ago. I re-fueled immediately when the warning popped up on the screen. So I had about 2 gals left?
I have not added any gas to my new Prius eco yet.I have gone over 500 miles. Wow. No indicator light has come on and I am down to about my last bar. Should I pump some in tomorrow as I travel about 50 miles round trip a day. Do not want to run out of gas. Am averaging 58 mpg and only has 500 miles on odometer Really pleased so far. Smooth ride and I have driven a manual for 35 years. Such a treat not having to shift all the time. And not rolling back on a hill haha
Depends where you're going. If you're within the city, that's fine. Even when the light goes on, you safety have another 50 city miles to go (maybe less if at highway speed... say 30-40 miles). When I mean safely, I mean it's probably closer to 80-100 miles at 58mpg left but you always want a buffer and not actually drain the tank to empty. But it's always good practice to refuel before it's empty anyway.
My experience with a few new cars is that the display for MPG isn't accurate till after I've filled up once. But the fuel gauge is relatively accurate. I'd be filling up if I were you. This is my first Auto for a long time - I still love a Manual!! More involving. Not rolling back - that's great - but it doesn't work in reverse if you're reversing up a hill.
There's precious few upsides to running it near dry. I tend to fill up anytime it's below half, but then, that's only 3 weeks at most. Still, I wouldn't be on the last bar and waiting for warnings.
In my experience when the gas light gets illuminated you will have about 30 or 40 miles until the Distance To Empty runs down to zero. Then when the DTE is at zero you will have about 1 gallon in reserve. But, my all means put gas in your car!
