That which cannot be shown in photographs I have posted a review of the 2010 JBL audio system in the Audio forum of PriusChat.
I think all photos have finally finished uploading! There are over 400 and I have not had time to edit/delete any of them....but there's some good stuff there that you haven't seen posted anywhere else. Prius Connection Detroit - a set on Flickr
I think that's most or all of them...I was looking at the photo number, but the first photo of the batch was 261, the last 484, and there were some deleted in camera. There may be a handful missing, I'll try to investigate and upload.
Doc!! what the heck is this? I couldn't make heads or tails of this photo Flickr Photo Download: DSC_0416
That is the windshield wiper fluid sprayer that is now mounted on the rear underside of the hood. You were invited? Clearly not worthy if you can't identify something as obvious as this!
lol. Hey, I was the first to point out the washer fluid nozzles in my group! The thing that threw me off was the blue whcih I thought was lighting lol.
That is the engine block heater, without the AC cord. I don't see any of Wayne's blood on it, though.
A work in progress, this page shows what I found interesting at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. Overall, the hybrid presence was good and there was a lot of attention paid to fuel economy. However there was plenty of stuff for the traditional 'gear heads.' As for the vehicle sheet metal shells, no doubt they were lovely. There was one fuel cell and a couple fo electric vehicles. Tesla was there as well as several others. However, my real interest is in hybrid drive systems and there were plenty of engineering cut-aways. "Bell the Hybrid" I met Scott Innis of Lotus Engineering, Ann Arbor, who was the designer of the Prius speaker system which he did for "Baxter." His primary interest is in a noise canceling of the exhaust, which would reduce back-flow and allow tuned, performance exhausts. He also mentioned making engine noise for those who need the illusion. I also asked him about the issue of blind pedestrians, "the bodies," and when I asked, he doesn't see the need. Fisker was there and after asking about noise makers for the blind, one of the booth workers said, "Oh, the synthetic roar." (Only I had trouble understanding her accent.) Eventually they brought over the young lady who presented at the NHTSA hearing. She pointed to the speakers built into the bumpers, a pair at the front and the rear that come on at speeds of 0-30 mph. I asked if they could play it but they weren't setup to do that at the show. The Denso booth showed their lane following, adaptive cruise control system. Not only does it read traffic signs but it also identifies pedestrians. This approach works for all pedestrians, not just the blind. As part of the accident avoidance system, it means the vehicle can respond to a risky situation. I also visited the Volvo booth and they also have a pedestrian, accident avoidance system. Theirs will apply the brakes to avoid an accident. Bob Wilson
Wowwww... the 2010 Prius comes with a pre-heater already installed??? P.S. - Dear admins I'm not receiving email notifications of posts replies. Please contact me by pm if you need more info. It's quite hard to keep up with threads this way.
It is, he installed, permanently, on the cut-away model at the show! It'll be there for all posterity unless and until someone discovers that it wasn't part of the original display. Apparently it's much easier to install without a body and such around the ICE! Hence no DNA this time!
That is really funny! I was concerned that parts might be missing after we left; had no idea that parts would be added... As that display travels around the country, you'll start to see automotive press stories to the effect that Prius needs an engine block heater or else it won't start in cold weather.
I expected to see a news story showing the Detroit Bomb Squad evacuating the building and sending in a robot... Tom
