I have a light green Prius that has the clear coat lifting of the spoiler and roof. Though this is very common on all vehicles as they age were I live in Australia.

On my 09 the top of the spoiler is about 50% bare of paint and the tops of the rear door handles the clear coat is peeling off and the paint discoloring. Odd that the front handles are fine and so is everything else.

Anyone have a list of Duplicolor matches for Prius colors? Some of theirs are perfect. Did a fix on the pointy front of a late 90's Cadillac front fender and nobody could spot the repair.

Where I wouldn't have to blend in to good paint a little off on the color shouldn't be as noticeable on the spoiler and handles.

The spoiler and the handles are very minor details, I would just wait to paint all the horizontal panels (hood, roof, hatch) when they go bad (which won't be far away).

Given the cost of a decent paint job, waxing your car a few times a year seems like a really cheap alternative, doesn't it?

I recently painted the roof and hatch/spoiler of my car for $800. So waxing it is definitely less expensive.

Duplicolor uses the Toyota codes, what's on the decal in driver's door frame.

My silver for example, is 1F7.

Spoiler is easy. Just use gloss black and it looks like that's the color it always should have been. It's pretty easy to remove, too. Wife's '07 is also mica green. The spoiler paint was pretty much gone.

Her roof, on the other hand. That would be a job. Looks like 50 peacocks were having a tap dancing party on it.

I had 2006 Prius and the paint start to have clear coat failure in 2017 in hot Florida. I believe, it is indeed a normal things for Toyota Prius paint lifespan in high UV area. When I was in UK/Ireland, many 2004 white Prius are still in excellent paint condition because of rainy and mild weather. My battery also went out after 11 years in Florida. However most people in UK have no problems with battery beyond 15 years. These days, all new Toyota hybrid has 15 years battery warranty in UK/Ireland. The rest of the world is only 10 years. I believe, all cars should be in garage when are parked for a long period of time to protect the paint and the battery HV lifespan.

The paint on the hood of my 2008 Prius (black) started bubbling the first time I hand washed it in my driveway and has gotten worse all these years since. I never complained about it to Toyota though - too busy going back for recalls every few months.

Also, my experience with the dealer hasn't given me much faith in Toyota. When my car was only 6 months old, the gas pedal stuck while I was driving my kids to school one morning. Without thinking, I stuck my toes under the pedal and forced it back up. It happened again a few minutes later with the same outcome. After dropping off my kids, I went straight to the dealer and told them about it - I figured if it happened to me twice in the same day, it had probably happened to someone else. They looked me in the eye and swore they had NEVER heard of this happening to anyone else, and they sent me home in a car they KNEW had a potentially deadly defect. By now, everyone knows all about Toyota's 2009-2011 Sticking Pedal Recall - so don't EVER expect these Yahoos to tell you the truth - even to save your life. And don't ever buy a Toyota.

Nope... actually, we've not heard much about of which you speak? But maybe you'd like to give more details? But keep in mind we love and are loyal to our prius and thing they're the best cars ever!

My 2005 light green Prius has a roof that is peeling. The cost estimate to repaint the entire car is $10,000! No way. What are the possible methods of addressing this problem? Repaint the roof alone? Replace the roof? Some kind of treatment process? What are the consequences if I just leave it alone? Thank you for any suggestions you may have. Joanna

It’s a 16 year old car. It should by all rights have 2 tug boat bumper tires hanging over the front bumper.

    Btw please check your oil.

You can just paint the roof. I did it with one of my 2005 cars, roof and spoiler was under $1000

Slightly off topic, but was the car ever in a body shop? My wife drives a 1998 Accord which used to be her parents' car. About 12 years ago a tree branch dropped on the roof and slightly bent the driver's side door. When it came back from the body shop the colors on those panels matched perfectly. (Although the shop forgot to reattach the drain lines for the sun roof, which then drained into the driver's side carpet when it rained.) Anyway, for the past year those two body panels have started to bubble, and now peel. Badly. The paint on the rest of the car is still perfect. So body shop paint, at least in some instances, does not hold up as well as factory paint.

Body shop repairs have lifetime paint warranty, so you should bring your wife’s car back to the shop

That's is clear coat failure. The only way to fix it is to repaint. Consequences is it just worse more peeling. You live in LA? Maaco runs promos all the time, try seeing if they can help repaint just the roof.

Body work is nutty expensive now. Tire kingdom put a little dent in one of my cars when I bought tires. Took it to Carsmetics estimate was $850 lol.

Well, the shop, assuming it still exists, is 400 miles away, and the paperwork is under my father-in-law's name, but I may still have the receipts somewhere, so I guess that is in theory still an option. In practice, not so much. We would either need to stay in a hotel until they fixed it or make an 800 mile round trip by car and an 800 mile round trip by plane.

Edit: No joy - we don't have the paperwork. We have all the service records for the car but he must have filed this in an insurance folder, which we do not have.
