Better yet like Tesla, it should open up automatically. But then our Prius Primes would probably cost more
Wait, mine does indeed do this. I thought it was a great feature, having it light up as I approached it in the morning to unplug.
The Prime is designed for low emissions and efficiency, not to be religiously EV. This group went through that discussion with first generation Prius Plug In (PiP). Sometimes it is more efficient to use the gasoline engine, sometimes it is more efficient to use electric, so the hybrid system picks what it thinks is best in the current situation. The PiP did not have a pure EV mode; what was called "EV" was really like the EV Auto in the Prime, where if you accelerate hard enough the gasoline engine kicked in. But people wanted "pure" EV, so the Prime has EV mode, which uses electric no matter how hard you press the pedal. Most of the reasons for the gasoline engine to start in the Prime are related to heating things up to minimize emissions. Note that the Prime gets to operating temperature very quickly, since it has things like a coolant loop through the catalytic converter to capture heat from it.
Nope, charging light lights up as I approached the car with my key. However, for this to work the car must be locked. iPad ? Pro
With my 2017 the charging port light turns on even when the doors are unlocked. If the doors are locked, both the interior and charging port lights turn on. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
My '17 Premium just finished charging, so I went out to the garage with my keys. Car was not locked. Charging port light did not come on as I approached. I waited about 10 seconds to make sure. No light until I unplugged the EVSE. Then the light came on. Could there be a difference in behavior between trim levels? Seems like a silly idea, but it wouldn't be the first silly idea in a car.
I totally wish they put the wiper in. Just pointing out something I didn't learn until owning the car for a little while, that you can lean the rear headrest forward and out of the way with the push of a button and without having to take them out.
If it's like third gen, you're not missing much. Well except maybe in heavy snow. The rear wiper is puny, sweeps about 20%, of an expansive, steep sloping upper window. Driving in rain, I'll almost always leave our rear wiper off. Once in a while I might do a single swipe, look at the lackluster result, carry on.
I checked on my 2017 PRIME Premium this morning, I can confirm that the charge port does light up as I approach if I have a fob with me, but it seems to work only if the car is locked for mine. If the car is unlocked, it did not light up. I did not check the interior lights, but IIRC at least on mine, it does not turn on the interior lights just by approaching to the car regardless of the car being locked or unlocked. I think it does turn on as I grab the handle to unlock it, but can't remember for sure. There is a custom settings for the interior lights illumination. That must be turned on for the interior lights to illuminate, but not sure if that is linked to the charge port illumination.
Dang - we still haven't figured out who's got it and who doesn't and why some don't have it. Could it be a techstream option that not all dealers know how to activate? Anyone with a Plus have it? Mine only lights up when the chargeport door is opened.Day and Night, i think anyways.
Yeah, that's entirely possible. I checked mine this morning before dawn in dark. I am not sure if it lights up in daylights.
