We need to learn how to accept criticism. It's like the lesson in life of learning how to lose. That's what makes us better.

...would repeat the same mistake GM made.

You'd be asking the wrong people. To grow the market, you must ask those not already part of it.

It seems that the ones having the problem with the Prime are the ones that have owned earlier generations of the Prius.
I didn't buy the Prime but my Gen 4 four is also missing the extra space my Gen 2 had. If it was that big of a deal I wouldn't have
bought it. Good thing it has enough cup holders, now that would have been a deal breaker. lol

I never said who I would poll...It was a general statement about getting opinions from a group of people. Any group. The result will be a percentage that believes one thing and a percentage that is certain the opposite is better.

No poll would actually work, since that audience doesn't understand the nature of those questions.

I was on an EV discussion panel at a CON. It was intriguing to hear what people attending asked about. They have virtually no background to work with, so everything is subject to misinterpretation.

Better education would help, it’s very similar to the internet. Some are very adept, usually the people in the field. Some only understand parts, I put myself in that category, and unfortunately there are some who understand nothing of the internet, do not try any more and have no place to turn for help. So, give up. So it is with Eva, Bev, Hybrids, charging, L1 and L2, ICE. A segment of consumers refuse to bet ( pay) $30,000 on a unknown. I suppose the switch from horse to car also went thru this sort of social transition. Education is the key. It’s the dealerships that should be the initiators of explaining new technology. Unfortunately they are also bewildered.

There's a lot of new "features" I have a tacit understanding of, AND an underlying hunch that I'm not all that interested in them. I'm happy with a car that gets me where I want to go, I've got zero interesting in it's ability to read text messages to me, I'm not impressed by byzantine touch-screen menus to access vital climate controls, I'll pass on it's ability to access my phone's playlist, I'd just like to be able to turn on the dang radio with knobs.

I'm spending maybe $30 a month on gas for a hybrid, so giving up trunk space and a spare tire and acquiring the added complexity of a plug-in? You guessed it, not interested.

Gargantuan gaping navigation screen front and centre? No thanks. Porcelain induction charging bay for my iPhone 5, won't work, and I'm not interested anyway.

Maybe it's time for some two-way communication. Or, they can just keep looking for "fresh" customers.

    (I'm getting trollish. Sorry.)

Wow, I thought my reply above might stir up some controversy..but it sure pulled people out of the woodwork, so to speak.

I agree with your analysis of "get the thing out" (#3). Frankly, I think they wanted to get out ahead of any potential competitors. The way the floor of the trunk 'sticks up' 4 inches above the liftgate really does look odd to me and seems like they just didn't have time to do a proper design. It looks like there is an air mattress thrown in the back.

Other than that, I love the Prime and will certainly consider it once the time comes. I'm hoping that by then...#1 will have happened. These really are just nits we are arguing about in an overall excellent package.

    You can't acknowledge the accomplishment?

That's significant production & delivery for 3 very different markets all in the very first year.

Advertising/Promotion can't even begin until that takes place.

might have been 100,00 with 5 seats and a full hatch, or maybe there just aren't enough gen exers interested.

With 5 seats I would have been less interested because the center console in the back seat is more valuable to me than an additional (mostly useless) seat.

However, had the car had all the storage of the gen 2, then the center console in the rear would have lost some of its appeal. In the 13 years and 150,000 miles I had my 2004, I only had a fifth person in it about 3 times, and all of them were really uncomfortable because of the car seats or booster seats in the other two seats for my kids.

I don't even know what that means.

With the car seats installed, there's about 5-6" between them in the center.

it means you must be a lot younger than me, like john was saying above. the car wasn't designed for old people.

Most older people only need a two-seater, which means the Prime's cargo capacity is massive because the seats can always be left down. Further, most older people have difficulty safely changing a tire so the lack of a spare is a safety benefit.
