Prime tire repair kit!

    I've had a small bolt in the tread, solidly in there, and the tire flat as a pancake. Happened fast too. Just saying: the object still being in there doesn't necessarily mean the tire's going to hold air.

    Less than 4K miles on my Prime and I got a flat. Dealer had over inflated the front tires to 55 psi. I used the kit to seal and inflate then drove it to the closest dealer. $142 to scrape out the sealent, fix the tire then rebalance the tire. The kit is 1 time only use. The sealant tube remains attached to the pump, no obivious way to remove. Ordered a Slime kit with sealent from Amazon $36 to replace.

    So wait... I'm not surprised that the sealant part would be one-time use, but I gather you're saying that the pump part is one-time-use as well?

    I used the goo kit on my LEAF a couple months ago. It worked like a charm and the eventual tyre repair was a completely un-exciting event at a franchise tyre shop in town. Cheap, too. I wasn't sure if the TPMS was fouled and I didn't want to pay a lot at the shop so I bought the replacement parts for $7 through Ebay. May have been wasted money.

    Replacing the goo kit looked like it might be expensive but I finally realized there was no reason to buy OEM and found lots of choices on Ebay from other manufactures. For whatever reason the Korean car manufacturer kits were around $20.

    I've changed from goo skeptic to fan.

    The 55 psi was likely set at factory, to avoid tires flat spotting in transit. Dealership dropped the ball, not adjusting them to spec. During PDI, which you payed big bucks for.

    I've had good results with a Nealy tire plug kit...and only $12. A 12v compressor is needed, as well. I also carry a valve cap with the end to remove the valve core and wire cutters to pull out the nail. If it's a screw, unscrew it, don't pull it and do more damage.

    To get a stuck wheel loose, put the lug nuts on loose and drive a very few feet at a very slow speed. It'll loosen. My Prime wheels were not stuck.

    I put Ride-On brand tire sealant in our Prime tires. I can't see the Mrs. using a string plug and compressor.... Ride-On says that tire shops have no trouble with this stuff, vs. aggravation from Slime brand stuff.

    Update, I found a place to insert a screw driver that releases the sealent bottle from pump.

    Tire Plug Kits, Fix Flat Tire, Tire Repair Tools | Safety Seal
    I've also have extremely good luck with a $39.00 - 43.00 Safety Seal flat kit .

    I offroad my 4Runner in the Ouray, CO area in extremely rough conditions and this flat kit has been used 12-15 times with no problems. The plugs just plain work. The auger and plug insert tool work well and are very strong. I've used it on my 2010 Prius, my 4Runner, and our Camry Hybrid and have used this kit since 2003 with no plugs drying out, etc.

    If you have a larger than normal puncture, you can use more than one plug to seal it. The auto/Light truck version comes with 30 plugs. The plugs are bent in 1/2 going in so they fill a large puncture to begin with.

    Further update, I went to the dealer to buy just the sealent. He said they only sell the kit, pump+sealent, price $44. Argh!!!

    Reading the manual OM47A88U, p. 683, about the emergency repair kit, it says the sealant is dated and can be replaced independently (implying before and after), the compressor is multi use, and the pressure valve and TPMS need to be replaced after using.

    This is contradictory to posts here about what the parts departments have said. Got to love Toyota.

    As shown on the Standard Tool page of Toyota’s Electronic Parts Catalog for the U.S. market, the air compressor assembly, part number 44890-47060, and the tubeless tire repair kit (with sealant, hose, and warning decals), part number 42606-47160, are sold separately. I’m not sure why a parts salesperson would say these parts are only sold together; perhaps the word “kit” in the description was confusing.

    The parts are the same for the Prius Prime and for fourth-generation Prius liftback models without spare tires. The part numbers in other countries are different, probably due to differing language requirements for the warning decals and instructions.

    A dealer has an eBay listing for the tire repair kit, with pictures, if you want to see exactly what’s included.

    Used the tire repair kit after running over a screw. Worked well! How much for a replacement bottle now that I’ve used up the 1st one?

    I too have had trouble getting aluminum wheels off a car. You take all the lug nuts off and the wheel won't budge no matter what you do. This works for tire rotations and flats. If the tire is completely flat you need to pump some air back into it. Put the lug nuts back on loosely then drive around in a tight circle. The car will put enough pressure on the wheel to break it loose. Alway, I repeat always inspect the contact point where the wheel meets the mounting flange on the car for corrosion buildup. Scrape it off and use antiseize or a light coat of grease
    On the two surfaces. If you have a buildup of this crud and you don't remove it the wheel will come loose after driving a while. That is why places like Costco call you and tell you to come back to have your wheels retorqued after 50 miles. It relieves them of the liability.
