Why do you say it doesn't translate to $2500 in the bank? My assumption is that we get $2500 on top any IRS refund or $2500 off from any money you owe to IRS. Is that not correct? Some of my buddies have reported this but they bought Nissan Leaf and it was $7500 for them. Also, I suppose once CA (CVRP) accepts your application. Your $1500 are assured and funds are reserved for you. Where did you buy your PIP from in CA? I purchased mine for $29,800 OTD and considering $4000 in rebates & tax refund. I am hoping mine would $25,800.
I am also curious to know - how did they make your MSRP 38K for PIP Advanced? MSRP on mine was $35,940 with Door Edge Guards, Carpet Floor Mats and Trunk Mat. You said they added tinted windows and rear bumper applique in yours.
Oops. My apologies. I meant $36K. Sorry. $36,009 plus tinted windows which they were charging $795. I got the car for $31 even. Then I will get $1,500 from CA state HOPEFULLY. To answer the $2,500 tax credit. The Fed does not give you $2,500, they allow you to take your gross income down $2,500 so depending on your tax situation they most likely will not be a dollar for dollar cash in your pocket. That is how it was explained to me.
Wow, that's a bummer about the Fed Tax Credit. If that's the case many people may not even be able to avail the benefit of Fed Rebate. Senior members or someone who has had PIP for 1-2 years can probably comment and advice on this topic. This is really confusing.
A decrease in taxable income is called a tax deduction. A decrease in taxes owed is called a tax credit. So you may in fact receive the entire $2500. So far as I know the two common reasons to not get the entire $2500 are AMT Federal tax liability below $2500. The EV tax credit is 'non-refundable,' which means tax liability cannot be negative.
That is great news. Not how it was explained to me but based on this that is a true $2,500 to you bank. Thanks for clarifying.
Hi there I'm a 2004 Prius 2g level 9 owner used to hang out here voyering and learning a LOOOOONG time ago. Got news my '04 should start thinking about becoming a used model for someone else. So started looking. I've always wanted my baby to be partial EV. And despite my wife's love of the Prius V I think I have her convinced we should get the PiP. Here in KC it is difficult to get a PiP, but I have two dealers basically offering me the same car from another location in our region. A PiP Basic with all weather mats and cargo tray. Right at MSRP of $31,000. Since they have to go get it they don't want to negotiate. Out of 8 dealers in the metro these are the only two who even offered to check out whether they could get one. Both have been great. Would I be off my rocker to pay the $31k? FWIW this makes it the same MSRP as the Prius V model 5 my spouse wants. Both dealers will give me that for about $29K though.
It costs $600 to $800 to ship the car to you from the East or West coast. Sorry I'm not up on the current incentives or pricing atmosphere, but I suggest you do a little direct research and emailing of East coast dealerships to see what they are willing to do (then add the shipping cost). Most dealers (but not all) know how to deal with out of state purchases (or they use a 3rd party service that does). If there are no great incentives, I would seriously consider leasing instead, due to the fast changing pace of the tech in this area, and the likely fast depreciation of a PIP when the next model or some other great EVs come out.
I live in Lincoln, Nebraska and had to fly out to New Jersey to pick up mine. The great thing about living in the middle of the country like we do is that you can look everywhere (both coasts) and do the math to see what works best for you. If I were you, I would find who is currently selling it the cheapest in the country then fly there to buy it and drive it back. Work it into a vacation even. Feel free to message me if you want some help/ideas on how to do this.
Waiting for Tuesday to see the new incentives. Hopefully Toyota will give away some even better deals as the year comes to a close model-wise.
Blah. This months "incentives" for the PiP are the same. I guess Toyota has no intentions of clearing out 2014 stock and losing again to the Leaf.
Out of six Toyota dealers around me, only one has any new PiPs and they have 2 2012s and 1 2013. None of them have 14s.
Not in Cali. It's rare to find any 2013 let alone a 2012 model anywhere at a dealership being sold as new. Here they are plentiful. Some dealerships have 30+ 2014 models
I don't have a 2012. This forum wouldn't let me register without selecting one. I currently have a 2011 Nissan.
