I believe glass etching refers to the process in which the VIN is permanently inscribed on all glass, in order to track parts if a car is stolen and winds up in a chop shop, or the car itself if the main VIN is changed after the car is stolen.

Do you mind to let me know what dealer you can get that price? I am shopping for one also, and I live in SoCal.

It's nice when you have a PiP friendly state, I don't.

I have a dealer quoting me $29.8+Tax+TTL for prius plug-in advanced. I am wondering if this is a good price? He has the sticker.

After Fed & State Tax it would be $25.8.

Stickers are now going to be available again, so you might want to ask the price on a comparable car without the sticker to see if you can save some money by getting the sticker yourself.

    No problem, AutoNation Toyota Hayward.

LOL, I got a lower quote from a different dealer after purchasing it form Hayward. Although no guarantee the other dealer would do a bait and switch or add extra charges.

Does anyone know how to apply for the Federal tax credit? I already applied for the CA credit using the CVRP website. Where can I apply for the Fed rebate or is it at the year end with Turbo Tax? thanks for the help!

I believe you apply for the federal rebate when you do your taxes.

The "credit" to which you refer in CA is actually a rebate, funded of course by taxes, but coming from CVRP (Clean Vehicle Rebate Project,) administered by CCSE (CA Center for Sustainable Energy,) for CARB (CA Air Resources Board.) Confused yet? Ain't gummint great? Not really complaining, as I got the rebate. But we're paying for it one way or another.

Thanks for all the replies to my question on Federal tax rebate! I was reading somewhere that there is a limit of 200,000 vehicles per manufacturer on Fed rebates. I suppose we are still okay with PIP, correct?

Btw, I did end up getting a winter metallic gray PIP Advance from a dealer in east bay. The lowest price I was quoted was 29,600 but I ended up buying at 29,800 from a dealer near where I live. They included carpet mats, cargo mats and door edge guards.

That is with the "tax benefit". I am not a CPA but the $2,500 we get as a tax credit doesn't translate one for one and an actually $2,500 in the bank.

I just bought a 2014 PIP Advanced with tinted windows, floor mats and stupid Appliqué. Oh yeah and green stickers. MSRP was $38k and I got it for $31,400 (without calculating in the additional $4k). Now I filled out the $1,500 CA rebate form, which is not a guarantee I will receive the check in September. I will also then get the $2,500 tax credit on this years taxes. So I guess the way folks are calculating the cost I got mine for $27.4k
