After reading this thread that is my understanding of the standard that HAS been set.

I live in California and purchased in California.

If you can use Toyota Financing, you might want to buy out of state and have the car shipped to you.

If everyone listed their OTD price, it would not be an apples to apples comparison because taxes/fees are different in different states.

The spreadsheet always includes the out the door price (including TFS incentives) BEFORE taxes and government rebates. It's useless to include taxes because they vary on a city-by-city level, so if you included them, someone in a lower-taxed city/state who actually paid a higher price for the car would look to have a "better" deal.

 

That's fine, then lets change the spreadsheet to clarify that OTD is not really OTD. Or provide some disclaimer that the price listed IS ONLY the price of the car AND NO OTHER DEDUCTIONS OR CONSIDERATIONS ARE INCLUDED.

If you look throughout the thread (using the links provided on the spreadsheet) we can see that not everyone used the same methodology for coming up with their price.

Arek, I'm the one who puts the prices into the spreadsheet. when i put in the price, i use the same methodology. that is, if someone says "my OTD price was 30k plus the 4k rebate from TFS", the number that actually goes into the spreadsheet is 26k, not 30k.

Furthermore, this appears at the very top row of the spreadsheet!

In early November I purchased an in-stock, dealer-special PiP from Fremont Toyota. The dealer discount was $2420 and Toyota chipped in $1500 "subvention cash". Optional equipment items included in the price below are: Lower Door Molding ($219, I like it), Carpet Floor Mats & Trunk Mat ($225, essential), and Illuminated Door Sill ($279, *bling*!). Also included are an $80 document fee and a $29 Electronic Vehicle Registration or Transfer Charge. I am leaving off the $760 delivery charge. I should say that I also jumped on the Toyota 0% financing for 60 months, which is worth saved interest and the value of liquid money here and now. ​

Purchase Price: $37,197​

Invoice if known: not known​

Sticker: $41,008 (+ $80 doc fee + $29 EVRoTC above = $41,117)​

Model (advanced or standard): Advanced with 3 factory installed options​

I think I got a good deal. The dealer discount and Toyota cash back brought the Advance price down by $4,131.75, factoring in CA sales tax saved on the dealer discount. The Toyota money is post-tax. ​

Ca has about 8.75% tax, so was your OTD price like 42,000? That sounds about right but just confirming.

Pretty darn close! $41,926.45.

But don't remind me...

Waiting for the $1,500 CA rebate, $2,500 Fed tax credit, and CA HOV access green stickers to ease the pain. The fuel savings are nice, but minimal.

 

i also got illuminated door sill and lower door molding... they're nice touches.

 

I have been quoted a price for a base PIP. I'm on Long Island N.Y. They claim they can sell me the car for $31,000 OTD, this includes suffolk county sales tax 8.625% It also includes the $4000 TFS cash back. 2 other dealers came $50.oo. higher than that (it does not include $2500 tax break or the $500 back from LIPA.)
How good a price is this ?? Is it possible to get a better deal. I told them that if there is anything extra I will walk out.

I am not sure if your price is good. Have you tried calling around in nearby states and see if they can do any better?

 

PiPs aren't moving at all in Long Island, you should try to counter offer.
If they believe your sitting on a better deal, they might be inclined to discount further.
When I shopped back in Sept. best offer came from upstate NY dealer, but I was able to get a local dealer to near match it (dch toyota city).
#s came about $33000 OTD with sept 2000 cash back (nassau tax rate), so your $31000 OTD looks right, but dealers aren't moving these at all. Someone must be willing to move it for less.

 

I was thinking I should have spread my efforts beyond Long Island...........
