Btw, the color thing is kind of important too. For example, Dianne has very few colors available, so if you want Blizzard Pearl, you gotta go elsewhere. Back east, they have tons of cars, so it's much more likely that your color+trim level combination will be available.

I figured the Out of State fee was a little bogus, but I didn't want to argue at that point. Doc fee was high, but for New Jersey, it was the lowest I got, other dealers here said 400. They were pretty good with everything. I was quoted a car with mats, and the car didnt have them. I mentioned it and right away the sales guy grabbed it from another car. Didnt ask for any proof, just took my word. Maybe I could have gotten something else too :)....Plus I was tired and just wanted out.

So next step now is transport. I am using Montway Auto transport, they were the lowest price and had very good rating on uship. I'll keep people posted on how it goes. The actual quote is $929. So there is another $71 dollars saved.

$27k is the final price after all taxes, rebates, tax credits, registration, etc.

Something I learned from Dianne Whitmire about shipping cars is that the lowest price may mean a delay in getting your car on its way. I looked into shipping a 2011 Prius from Dianne's Carson store to my daughter in Ohio, rather than buy it there. Dianne would save us $1500, but she said to have one of the better shipping outfits do it would cost about $1100-1200, if I recall correctly. The shipping brokers post the jobs, and the contracting truckers can cherry-pick to make the best money. So a car can sit for a couple of weeks, waiting for space on a truck already making the run, or a driver really needing a load. BTW, when I Googled auto shippers and gave my contact phone to one, I got multiple calls from a slew of brokers trying to underbid each other. This continued for several days after we had bought the car in Ohio.

Can you post your exact numbers? Was the $29,242 before or after the $1500 TFS incentive? I dont see how you got 27k after everything from a CA dealer.

My contract is at home so I can't give exact number, but I can be within $100.

That is a very good sales price ($29,242) before any incentives/rebates. I don't think anyone has gotten anywhere close to that and doubt anyone can replicate that sales price.

That's with $499 in dealer installed accessories that they refused to remove. Also, they offer a $500 military discount which I did not qualify for.

I can offer a scan of the sales contract for those who might be dubious.

A scan would be great, but I doubt any dealer (especially in SoCal with such low inventory now) would even match it. Did you have any trade-in?

No trade-in. I have an Accord on lease until February, but when I had the opportunity for that price on the PiP I had to take it now.

Congrats. You got a great deal in CA. Some of us had to go to the East Coast (with the massive $4k TFS rebate) to match that deal.

Nothing wrong with that if you get a "free" vacation out of it. I just wondered why people were doing that. I knew I got a good deal, but I didn't know it was that good.

Like I said, consult the spreadsheet. Very few people got below 30k in CA. Dianne's price right now is 30 and change AFTER a 1k TFS rebate.

    Hi Wade,

Can you share the name of the sales person you worked with?

PiPLosAngeles, sounds like a very good deal indeed. Since I have dealt with DCH Simi in the past, I went in to see the internet manager, who sold me my first Prius. This was around Sept of last year, when we were getting info on pre-ordering. She said they would not be offering any discounts, but rather would be "adding value" to the PiP, so the extra $499 in accessories shows that they are still doing business that way. When I bought my first one they were just out in Oct. '03, and she tried to convince me that it was their policy to add a "protection package" and that her manager wouldn't let the car go without it. I forget what the price of it was, but I told her to tell the manager that it was a dealbreaker. They caved, and I wrote the check that night. Of course, at that point, they hadn't done the wax/Scotchguard or whatever. Sounds like yours was already done with the add-ons, so of course they want their money for the extras. For my PiP, I went with Diane Whitmire at Carson Toyota, as a lot of us did in the pre-order days.
Anyway, congratulations on your new car and the great deal. What a difference a year makes!;)

I didn't consult the sheet, but I'm sure your deal is pretty amazing. Unfortunately, none of the dealer seemed willing to go down in the la area. I may not be the best negotiator, but I pretty much got turned down by everyone when I offered $31,000 before rebates. If anyone was willing to go to 30,500, I would have bought instantly. But I agree with you, if you are not saving 1500 or more, i personally wouldn't do it. Unfortunately the lowest confirmed quote was 31,700 from cabe Toyota in long beach. Diane was 31,800 and wouldn't lower.

That's an awesome deal. By any chance, did you see the private message I sent you?

By the way, because it kept getting lost here, I've added a permanent link to the pricing spreadsheet into the PiP FAQ. You can check it out using the link in my sig.
