You are assuming that all dealers are ethical and that all their employees are competent.
That's a pretty WILD assumption I think.

 

Does that mean that you have not actually tried to start it and drive it since you noticed this ??
If not, you should try that NOW.
If it does seem to drive OK, the light might just be bad.......or a computer glitch.

 

We'll have to see how this plays out.

However, I am inclined to believe the OP's problem is due to a faulty brake switch than the vehicle not receiving the recent software update prior to sale.

I think you would get a no key detected notice.

 

I still think you need to be a little more firm pressing the brake pedal or it is the brake light switch!
The dealer will figure it out!

 

where did you learn the 15 second method? i never heard of it.

Just to rule out the key fob battery...

Press and hold the brake pedal. Hold your key fob against the Power button. The green light should light after a couple of seconds, even if there is no battery in the fob.

Lights, LEDs, whatever have been known to go bad. If the car starts is not an immediate problem. The dealer should be able to fix it.

unfortunately, this thread ended with no solution and three different members with similar problems. i wish you better luck!

 

According to a reliable source (my dealer) running the Prius battery dead in the showroom was an almost daily occurrence. By the time I got the car, the aux battery was shot; only holding 10-15 mins of charge at best, in acc mode. Apparently they believed (as I did) that keeping the hybrid battery plugged in would keep the aux battery up as well. Not true at all, although such a feature would be much appreciated.

 

I agree, and that's why I spent so much time researching what sort of a dealer I was buying from. In some ways, we buyers get what we deserve when we don't put much thought into buying a car from a dealer with questionable ethics. In a perfect world, everyone would deal only with those dealers who have genuinely earned a high customer satisfaction rating. Until then, I guess some of us will continue to pay the price for our lack of high standards.

And along with that, I think someone asked if the brake lights were working or not.
Were they ?

I think some of us assumed that if the brake lights worked, that would rule out the switch.
Maybe there is more than one switch.......or multiple contacts ??
