North is up. Always. I tried heading up but then I lose what direction is north, and when the road is curvy the constant flipping around is distracting. When navigating and following directions, there is a benefit to a 3D heading view, though - it does make the right and left turns a tiny bit easier.

In either case, I would also like the car's position to be toward the edge of the map to increase the view of the area you're approaching. I don't care what's behind me, I've already gone past it.

Oooohhhh! This is good to know. Thanks!

I am also overjoyed that the car is still represented as the flying candy corn spaceship.

    Direction Up for me.

It can get annoying on a curvy road (cause the map is always rotating) but on city streets, I can always look at the same part of the screen (the top part) to see what streets are coming up. If I use North Up, then I have to look at different parts of the screen depending on the direction I'm travelling to see the name(s) of the upcoming streets. When you're glancing at the screen, that milliseconds that are required to scan the screen in North Up isn't worth it as you would've travelled several feet in those milliseconds.

Besides, there's a compass built into the nav (that same button you press to cycle through the different map modes) so I can always look at that to find the direction.

So how do I change it so it shows the direction I'm going?

    Thanks

Also, if you ever scroll the map or get it off center to where you actually are, just press the Home button to the right. It will re center the map.

So is there South UP option for Aussie? Personally, I have Garmin on the dashboard and I have not used Toyota Nav ever since I purchased my PRIME.

The ability to switch between north-up and direction-of-travel up has been there since at least the Gen 2 nav. I've had nav in Gen 2, 3 and now my prime. I've always found it easier to use direction up rather than have to do the additional special translation to try to figure out if an up-coming turn is left or right (although the HUD does help with that a lot. I find I hardly look at the map at this point (usually just to see eta).

My preference has always been for top of map the same as direction of travel. That means the map top shows me what's ahead.

I would not mind the satellite view on the Prime. I know it's available on the Tesla (well, the Prime costs $80K less than the Tesla)

For me, the map is busy enough. I can get just the information I want in a quick glance. Having the satellite view would just make it that much harder to read quickly and get what you want (which is directions).

I would honestly only use it when I was parked and then when i'm trying to find a destination that's difficult to view. if it had a street-view option that would be even better, but again, only when parked.

Satellite view (Google Earth) is also available on select Audi products.

Street View is available on European Toyota products (to view the surroundings of your destination).

North up for planning and if using paper maps. Direction up for traveling with scrolling displays.

I use North up when I am in a new area that I want to get situational awareness. But if I am local or don't care, its easier to have the direction you are driving. So I do switch.
