I am asking because I don't think that is necessarily true. With the exchange rate to the Loonie, I think it may be substantially cheaper in Canada. I'm thinking base price difference of close to 5K difference (base price), in the 2015. Of course, the Prime pricing has not been announced yet, but I'm a curious watcher. Trade arbitrage and Forex!

Yes, I forgot about canada. Vehicle pricing there is about the same, maybe only slightly higher than the USA.

Anyways, with the pricing a little higher in Canada, I believe that would compensate for the exchange rate and probably equal to about the same price as buying it in the USA.

What I meant was that it is cheaper in Canada. I was looking at the 2015 Prius Prime. It was only 35k CAD for the base model. With the exchange rate, that would be less than 26k USD. Wondering if Toyota will adjust to compensate for this in the Prime.

It's possible, only time will tell.
I would give it another 6 months.

Canadian pricing has not been announced.

Typically, the manufacturers don't strictly follow the exchange rate since it can be volatile (except Tesla). e.g. your 2015 Prius PHV costs USD$26k you say. But not in 2014/2015 when the car was available. When the 2015 was launched in the fall of 2014, it would've cost USD$31k. (or more than the base price of the PiP in the US).

But generally, the U.S. has one of the lowest prices available for vehicles.

    *Lower, not lowest.

I am not clear by what you are saying. I don't own a 2015 PiP.

Sorry, that should've said "your example of".

What I'm saying is that during the life of the 2015 PiP that you gave as an example, the equivalent US price went from $31k to $27k in the span of a year.

Well if you include taxes, I'd wager it's pretty much the lowest. You have the population for economies of scale and the tax on vehicle is probably the lowest in the world.

Oh and no UK prices yet and the Prime isn't going to be sold in Australia or NZ.

In the Netherlands, the base price is 38k euros. (I assume that's with taxes). That's $40k USD base price. (yes it has a few extra things but not worth $13k with taxes)

Each market and its own peculiarities.
It will be interesting to see how it compares to the Gen4 price in each market.

Greetings from Finland..Prius PHV as it is called in Europe made its first debut to our country this weekend..I think it was the same vehicle which was present in Paris Motorshow, September.

We have three trim levels Life, Active and Premium. The vehicle in the pictures is Active. It is roughly 5000 EUR more expensive than regular 4th gen Prius.

So the starting price over here will be 39 KEUR = 41 KUSD and the most expensive one Premium, including 11.6 screen and solar roof (roughly 3 KEUR) will cost around 50 KEUR = 53 KUSD.

We in Finland enjoy one of the most expensive automotive taxasations in the world

Are you sure about the 11.6" screen? I thought EU is getting 8" all trims.
Also, it is not clear from the photo - does it come with 2 charging cables (mode 2 portable EVSE and Cable for mode 3 charging) or only one?

In this vehicle was 8 inch screen..I understood from the dealer that 11.6 would come as well..I did not ask about the charging cables..I guess all the final details are not clear yet..the first cars should arrive march 2017.

It looks like without tax in EU price will be around 30k EUR (Netherlands, Finland).

30k Eur plus UK Vat at 20% is just under 31,000 Gbp.

Base UK Prius price Inc Vat plus 5000 EUR is about 27,700 Gbp.

Quite a difference. Who is right?

Or is the 5000 EUR quoted in relation to a higher spec Gen4?

Do these figures include any government rebate, or not?

Can contributors clarify and also explain I more detail how they arrived at their figures and what their sources of information were?

Thanks. That prob means I won't be buying one, not new anyhow. Too expensive.

I wonder whether they thought the price competed with the non plugin gen4 too competitively, ow whet her this is to do with exchange rates.

    Odd and disappointing.

In Finland we have Value added tax + extra car tax which is based on co2 i.e. The milder the co2 the milder the taxes. No extra taxasation benefits yet (although our government is planning extra 4000 EUR tax support for 25.000 ev/plug-in vehicles).

So without taxes the mid trim (in pictures of my original post, including the official price) will cost 30.661 EUR. And the starting price of the lowest trim level gen4 prius is around 600 EUR lower. So I presume that that lowest trim comparable Finland-US non-tax, with-out extra tax benefit price is 30.000 EUR= 31.794 USD.

Starting price or lowest trim level Gen4 is 600 EUR lower - with or without taxes? 600 EUR seems a v small difference.
