POLL: Did the ECU Update Recall work for you?

got mine done today...about 45 minutes. practically painless. i have not noticed a difference in how the car brakes in anyway whatsoever and as i was unable to duplicate the issue (kinda, sorta thought i did it once, but despite going over the same place 2 more times (which is all passengers would allow me to do) was unable to reproduce the action which was not all that big a deal to begin with. sure it was a different feel in the brake pedal only as the 2 others in the car at the time had not a clue that anything had happened) i am probably not a good person to ask...

but i rarely wait for someone to ask before injecting my thoughts so, i did it. i really dont think it fixed anything. only made the pedal more responsive. i was afraid that it would make light regen only braking harder to control, but i actually felt on real difference at all, so wondering if the timing change only affects quicker application of brakes like sudden applications, etc.

who knows? i will play with it some more

Yesterday,I did the brake update at the Santa Rosa CA Toyota dealer.

After waiting an hour and a half. They told me my update was done in Japan. Good thing there was no charge. Just a waste of my time.

 

Had my Prius updated on Friday. Tested it on this spot on Saturday and I could still reproduced the lost of brake. I couldn't tell if the brake lost got shorter or not. But one thing I am sure, I couldn't reproduced it until I drove faster then 30 km/h. But many owners seem to say it happen only at 10 mph or slower!

I took some pictures today but there was a car parked right behind the manhole. So I couldn't test it again.

Yeah, I have experienced it and yeah, I can duplicate it. But, since I have been able to duplicate it so many times, I am now used to what to expect, and it is really no longer an issue, if we keep in mind that it shouldn't be in the first place! I am more disturbed at this point to see that Toyota is quite proud of the fact that they have "saved $100million" from the recalls!!!!!! And what about the people who are now dead? I will be the first to admit that our Prius problem most likely won't cause any deaths. But, it does exist. And I was one who thought that maybe I was a bit crazy when I first started experiencing the problem. And then my sister/brother-in-law, 2nd generation Prius, trying to tell me that I should just go and "practice braking in a parking lot"!!!!!!!!!!! I like my Prius. But, I think Toyota still has a long way to go for those of us who have shelled out 10s of thousands of dollars on what we thought were "perfect" vehicles, to only now find out that we may lose money on said vehicles if we were to try and sell them today!!!!!!!

 

Interesting, I could only produce the problem if below 30 km/h before A0B. I could not produce it if running faster than 30 km/h. That is a pretty ugly manhole cover. Any possibility of reporting it to the folks who handle your road surface work?

What I've found is frequently the problem is solved by resurfacing the streets. That manhole cover looks like it needs a patch in the worst way.

Do you have an iPhone or iPod Touch? I'm trying to qualify some of the accelerometer software and if successful, I'd be interested in getting the data from your driving experience.

You had SSC-A0B applied? Since I had it installed, I can't replicate the problem.

Perhaps you can give us the location where you've reproduced the problem ... pictures of the road that causes the problem ... speed it occurs at ... conditions.

Do you have an iPhone or iPod Touch? There is accelerometer software that may allow us to quantify the brake pause. I'm working to qualify the software but even in the current form, it may provide enough data.

I had the update done, and I think the braking's a little bit nicer. I did notice the problem before it was done, but the weather's changed out here, and there's no opportunity to try it again. I'd noticed it when I lost traction on ice, or snow. Coincidentally(?), my gas milage, as shown by the car's computer, which I find to be about 2.4mpg more than I'm actually getting, is now registering in the low 50's. I'm not sure about the kick-off of the cruise control. Maybe a slight improvement.

 

got mine done today, took them 3 hours to finish. seems like the braking is smoother. anyway will have to wait if they fixed the "brake problem". have to drive and observe the car if it replicates the "problem".

 

I think I'm the only one still waiting for a letter. Not that I can produce that "skip" very easily. I'm done intentionally driving over potholes and I think the car appreciates it!

 

when did you purchase your prius? IF you purchased it in the year 2010 the update is probably in your car already. I purchased my 2010 prius on june of 2009, so i did need the update. No letter was sent to me, but it showed in the computer at the dealership when i went there for an oil change. Took it in at 730am on a saturday, and got the car back 4 hours later. I did get an oil change, but didnt think it would take that long.

 

Have any U.S. Prius owners received notification by mail yet? Some owners from Canada and Australia have posted that they received mail notification and some U.S. owners have been contacted over the telephone by their dealers or the dealer's auto-dial machines.

I have not heard a word from Toyota since I bought my car in August, not even a welcome new owner letter let alone a recall notification.

 

that is not going to help rebuild Toyota's rep.

 

I had mine updated yesterday.
It took 15 min from the time it hit the service stall till it excited the stall. Yes i watched them do it.
The version went from 103 to 106.
The techstream? laptop computer is pretty slick and it basically is walking the tech right through the steps.

There is a possibility Toyota will not be sending 2010 Prius owners a letter. If you go to the owners web site and enter your VIN, they will tell you if you need to see your dealer for updated ABS software. That is possibly all we are going to get.

 

If you bought your car before the recall hit, you almost always will need the update. I bought mine less than 4 days before it hit and I needed it.

I never received snail mail about the recall, but I did get an e-mail from the dealer I had just bought the car from letting me know and how to schedule an appointment.

Oh, by the way, I was told it would take 6 hours because they were busy! When I voiced extreme displeasure, they managed to (somehow ) shave off 3 hours. But still, 3 hours for something that takes an incredibly short time to fix? I had the first time slot of the day as well.

The brakes feel a bit different but very nice. I always thought they were way too sensitive but now they're just right.
