Poll: BT Tech Stiffening Plate

From what I read in the Bethlehem Prius post, most people who have it thinks it works. This poll should refelct that. I don't notice any difference since I installed mine, but thats just me. It will stay on.

What gets me, if it made that dramatic of a change to a lot of owners and the handling of the car was that bad before it was installed, why buy the Prius it in the first place?

I must admit when I lived in Washington State and drove the mountains all the time I could appreciate the change the plate brought much more acutely.... now I drive much more open straight roads.
But hey, I dodged a turtle the other day going about 65 and felt totally comfortable as the car responded with ease to the steering adjustment.

The kind of roads you drive, there is constant swaying back and forth around turns, coming down steep hills with turns at the bottom etc so I'm sure you appreciate the change.... I know I did.

My hubby finally put the plate on (after a couple of months) and I am reporting I am very happy with it. I wasn't sure if I would notice a difference after reading a lot of posts about it. I noticed better handling right away. I can't describe it, just that the car responds better when changing lanes and going around corners. I used to have a Nissan 240sx with the sports suspension package and I loved how that car handled.

I know exactly what you mean. My last vehicle was a Nissan Spec-V. It had some pretty stiff suspension and handled awesome. With the handling upgrades I've done so far, the handling performance of my Prius has greatly surpassed the Spec. The ride is way more comfortable, as well. I still have 2 more chassis pieces to install. It's only going to get better. Enjoy your ride B)

Nice reflection on taking it easy on people. I've rarely seen that from my end especially when you ignored questions from newbies like me at the time, given regular trolls way more lenience, and the heavy doubting and allowing attacks, some personal, (from others) on the original naysayers in these twilight-zone religious threads. Tom, when I first test drove the prius I was expecting that cheap roller skate feel often felt in smaller cars but I was pleasantly surprised as it drove quite well and exceeded my expectations.

I was determined I was not desperate enough for good gas mileage to put up with a "cheap" feel.

However, always looking for improvement, I tried the plate and again my expectations were exceeded. Not so much backing out the driveway or even a moderate cruise to work, but in higher speeds, negotiating turns, exits, wind gust and basically anything abrupt or stressful, I noticed much better control, tightness and handling.

Even without the brace, the prius does a good job for the type of car it is, but I must confess its not "all together" in tightness from front to back when going over bumps etc and the plate does improve that.

I really think that to most owners it has made a positive impact. I don't question that. I am one of the few who do not notice an improvement. But when it comes to a "Dramatic" increase in handling I question their reasoning. Again if the car handled that bad when you test drove it, why buy it.

I love the car the way it came from the factory, I, like the rest of us have made a few modifications for my own enjoyment. I wish that I would have been exposed to the Prius before his year as I will definitely buy another one.

My plate will stay on, maybe it is showing some improvement that I don't notice.

How did you decide to begin manufacturing the plate? I have seen "strut tower" supports before, but never anything like this. Did you do any testing to verify its effectiveness. Any double blind placebo testing, Ha ha.

Just kidding about that last one, but I am serious about my questions. Not trying to be difficult. Just wondering how you came up with the idea and what engineering is behind it.

Brian (Mr BT Tech), had developed a similar solution for the Corvette, and due to the design of the Prius, he thought that it'd work for the Prius as well. Long story short, after many revisions, and testing by people with racing experience, we now have the awesome BT Plate.
