Ah, that makes sense. Seat tilt might be a plus, but as I said, I found the seats perfectly adequate as is.

I have driven on several long trips from 8-13 hours and have not had problems. They are not the best seats I have had, but certainly not the worst either. I think that is true of Toyota seats in general.

I am thinking the the seat complaints are mostly from Gen2 and Gen3 liftbacks. v may have better seats due to bigger seat size.

I go on 8+ hour trips several times a year and haven't had any trouble with the seats.

    I understand completely!
I was asked by a little old lady in Germany to help her push a an old German shepherd into her car, and before doing so I first asked "Does he bite?" So I was thinking of making a sign that I would wave out the door when I have to get out, stating: "Needs Help! Doesn't bite!"
    Think that would help?

If you can wave the sign high enough for people to see! Though they might prefer to help an old dog rather than a grumpy old man?

Longest trip with the Prius was about 8 hours. I am 6'3" and my wife is 5'3" and we can both find comfortable positions. The Prius replaced a BMW 335 with sport seats and many power adjustments. The Prius seat is fine.

Recently my son rented a Volvo that had very comfortable seats - much better than the BMW or Prius.

I participated in the poll because I had the non-power cloth seats then I had the powered Softex seats. The later were more comfortable and I was happy to pay extra for them. I was not happy paying extra for collision avoidance and radar CC.

    Grumpy? I'm not Grumpy!

Bashful around young women with exposed navels.
Doc, certainly, but a Ph.D. rather than the medical kind.
    Dopey, especially when Sleepy.

    Happy, when I'm not Grumpy.
Sleepy, at bed or nap time.
    Sneezy, during allergy season.
    But Grumpy, (almost) never!

I've travelled for 8 hours at a stretch in my 2010 and have had no problems. I drive 50 miles per day back and forth to work. My wife has severe RA is comfortable in the car. She won't drive it though due to visiblity concerns. (aka : she is too short to see out of the car.) I am definately not interested in power seats because, when I get the seat adjusted to the way I like it, I don't move it.

I like the power seats so far (well after 1 week) :)

I find the more upright position of the seat (than a tradition car of the Prius size) nice especially coming from a Highlander. It's not at nice as my wife's Lexus 330 but the whole driving experience is nicer.

The seats suck and I wouldnt be happy to pay more for a seat that doesn't suck. I find the Prius to be an ergonomic mess and that is one of the chief complaints I have about a car I'm mostly dissatisfied with. The whole interior is cheap and poorly designed, imo.

I voted fine as that was the best fit of the options available.

Each year we do at least one trip averaging 24 + hrs of driving each way (Victoria BC to La Quinta CA with side trips). We also do shorter trips involving more than 1/2 day of driving.

We have found the seats to be workable if not ideal. I am sometimes stiff when getting out of them but that is I think more related to age than the seats.

The following inexpensive improvements would however be greatly appreciated:
    • Separate adjustment of height and tilt for both front seats
    • Well designed adjustable lumbar support (Our circa 1990 Camry was not too good at any position)
We would not want to pay $500+ extra for power seats in fact we did not like the power seats we had in our Honda because without memory built in we found them a nuisance to adjust when changing between drivers and it is a royal pain standing out in rain/sleet/snow while waiting for the seat to grind its way back so you can get into the car

I bought a new 2013 Prius three last week. I read the threads about poor seats, but didn't find any problem with them, until 2 days ago. All those other times, I drove for short distances, never noticed anything. 2 days ago, I had to drive 130 miles each way, with bad traffic it took me 3 hours each way. I was good for the first hour plus, but sometime around 2 hours, my back started to hurt and as I got closer to 3 hours, it was hurting much more.
I have 3 cars. I always replace each car right after I'm done paying it off in 5 years, so I've had a lot of cars in the last 30+ years. I've never felt any back pain in any other car like I feel in this car. I'm 1 week into owning this car and the seat issue is annoying me.
I love the car, but for me to keep driving it, I'm going to have to find a lumbar support pillow to use.

Is the powered inflatable lumbar support that my 2013 has something new that Toyota recently added? Because it sounds like a lot of you don't have this and it makes a big difference.

At 6'2" tall, longs legs, 2011 Prius driver's seat has been somewhat of a problem for me, but things have been better since building and resting my right calf on this a lot while driving:

    camera 502.jpg camera 503.jpg camera 499.jpg

From renting '13 Prius Four, it seems the driver's seating would be somewhat better but not what I'd call luxurious per se.

To cut some slack to Prius, I test drove an 2013 Honda Accord Sport with power, fabric driver's seat and could tell, for sure, I need the full on power adjustment because I had to change the seat bottom tilt for leg support. With the LX Accord manual seat, I'm pretty sure even it would feel lousy because of no tilt adjustment.

So, Toyota doesn't need to make a power seat in Prius Two and Three, but a tilt knob for seat cushion would help me out.

Toyota has methodology on Corolla and Prius to change seat cushion tilt around 8 degrees ( 12 to 20) from full height up to down position. Compare that to 2 degrees difference (16 to 18) in Civic, so, different approaches in Toyota / Honda small cars. I wrote to them about it, what else to do?
